Loved the art displayed at the moment, Botero, nonetheless! Five stars for Botero's artwork. I do feel lucky I got to understand him and see many of his invaluable works. . ..but despised the venue.....does this mean it should get 3 stars? Well, I don't think so because this is a review of Palau Martorell, not Botero. About how I think they only exist to make money off tourists.
Any and every exhibition hall I've visited around the world provides seats, typically benches, so one has the opportunity to take the time and enjoy the piece of art one is looking at. Palau Martorell does not. Not even for the elderly who might need them even more. But no one there is going to notice because there is no personnel to help. Only one has been seen going around to do some surveillance.
Second, the prices. They are clearly trying to make as much money as possible instead of helping spread art and cultural icons such as Botero (one to be known for having done the opposite all his life, donating many of his works). Is it the curator's request? I doubt that. Instead, Palau Martorell makes ridiculous the idea of supporting those who are in need. Their "discount" for them is merely 2€ off of 16€, and when you see how crowded it is, you understand they don't do it because they want to share art, they only offer the "discount" because they must be forced to by law.
Third, the area where the video about the artist is displayed is so terribly set up that you can only sit at the back if you are big and tall, otherwise, the person in front of you is going to block your view completely. Aren't there ways to make the best out of a small space? Sure there are! It's just that, again, they don't really care about the visitor. The movable chairs there (placed around the fixed benches that bock the view) are also super uncomfortable.
Lastly, have you ever been to a museum or exhibition hall where the people that greet you don't speak the NATIVE language? That also happens there.
BOTERO, Fantastic. Palau Martorell,...
Read moreUnfortunately this is quite an elitist institution. Even if you are unemployed you still have to pay 10 euros (!) to see the current exhibition and there are no days or evenings when admission is free. Due to the high admission price it is impossible for an unemployed or homeless person to visit this important cultural institution. With the impending cost of living and unemployment crisis it is a sad state of affairs that no concessions are made for those who do not have the economic means to experience the cultural events on offer. This is old world elitism where art and culture are only for the wealthy. My personal message to Palau Martorell is, please reform your admissions policy so exhibitions and events are available to everyone, and not just those who can afford...
