It's a cool looking bar in a really sketchy neighbourhood. We saw a guy get robbed around the corner, so be aware at night. Especially if you're a tourist or woman. We did not feel safe.
But cool-looking is about all it is. Really pricey for what you get and quite distant service. It seemed like he would rather talk to his friends/regulars than serve other people. I should note that although the neighbourhood is sketch, the customers are fine. Just normal folks enjoying drinks.
The decor is pretty neat, in that cluttered, vintage hipster style. We've seen it a hundred times before and usually it implies a very down-to-earth, laid back vibe or a very hipster one. This seemed to be the latter. Nothing about the interior or drinks reflected the name of the of the bar nor its art deco exterior. It's an overpriced millennial faux-dive bar, lbr. Drinks prices are too high for what you get.
Most of the people (mostly men) there are drinking beer, so it's not a craft cocktail place, just a regular bar, and we knew that much going in. It wasn't a surprise.
At one point a group of German or Dutch tourists came in, looked around, had one shot and left. We saw the same happen with a group of American(?) girls who came in, had one drink quickly and decided to leave. That seems to be the general consensus -- unless you're a local. It seems really appealing from the outside and online, but in reality, as a visitor, it's not really a welcoming place.
They have 4 feature cocktails, not like what I saw online. We were offered no menu so I assume what was on the board was it. All of them seemed too sweet or boring, so I opted for a standard whiskey sour. In all honesty, it was a perfectly respectable sour. Nothing wrong with it at all, but something about the overall vibes was off and we left right after finishing.
Totally average "dive" bar. Decent classic cocktail and interesting decor, but maybe not a place to spend...
Read moreDO NOT GO HERE. We were kicked out very aggressively by the bartender and he was swearing at us, he got very violent - this happened on a Saturday night when he wanted to close the bar. Only because my friend went to the toilet and knocked on the door, he claimed she was âbotheringâ his friend in the toilet. He had his girlfriends sitting at the bar and they were just laughing about this when he was shouting and swearing at us then very loudly shutting down the window shutters of the bar. Donât go to this horrible place, bartender is violent and clearly has some anger issues which he takes out on customers. Unacceptable.
UPDATE. You reply with same attitude, I expected that. We understood that you had to close thatâs why we got up to leave and said ok immediately. You were the one getting violent and shouting swear words at a customer. It is normal that people knock on the bathroom door if someone takes long, that was not banging and we are not violent people. And I asked on my way out to one of your friends at the bar if she thinks it is funny when you were shouting at us, to which she replied âyesâ. I do not understand your comment about my friendâs hands in my pants? Now youâre trying to make this about that, really classy and nice of you. And we were not afraid of the sound of blinds shutting down, we were scared of your violent behavior. We were a group of three, my partner and my friend, just talking to each other and having one beer. This is aggressive and inappropriate, you got violent just because we couldnât leave immediately. In normal bars, bartenders tell the customers that the bar is closing in half an hour so they have some time to finish the drinks and go to toilet. Maybe consider treating your customers with respect. Other comments also show that you donât know how to do that. Luckily we will never meet you again and I feel sorry for...
Read moreHad some delicious London Mules here with a friend last night. Conversation was almost impossible with all the classic BANGERS playing in the background from Tool, to RHCP, to Sublime, to Green Day I just couldnât help but sing along or silently and vigorously head bob to.
The decor is a kitschy mix mash of classic rock icons, old time theatre style, punk mash ups, prohibition era touches, antique furniture (and fire hydrant? p cool), and a touch of grunge. Enough to keep your eyes amused as they glaze over the stylistic smorgasbord of relics of a simpler time and countercultural staples. Did any of that make sense? Kind of, maybe. Yet it just does, just like this place.
Just slow and off the beaten path enough that the bartender was attentive and relaxed still. Definitely worth checking out if youâre visiting, or becoming a regular if youâre in the hood and you enjoy the full spectrum of rock/alternative music and just damn good cocktails made by...
