An Unforgettable Barcelona Gem: Güell Tapes Restaurant Visiting Barcelona as a non-Spanish speaker, I was a little nervous about finding places where I could feel comfortable, but Güell Tapes Restaurant was an absolute a-ha moment for me. From the moment I walked in, I was captivated by the ambience—it felt so genuinely warm and inviting. I truly mean it from the bottom of my heart when I say this place is a must-visit. The food was nothing short of a revelation. I ordered the chicken paella and the sirloin cubes with pepper, and they were incredible. My taste buds haven't been this happy in a long time! The flavors were so rich and perfectly balanced, a true culinary delight. To top it off, I had a local Estrella beer that paired perfectly with the meal. What truly made my experience extraordinary, though, was the service. My waitress was an absolute rockstar. Not only was she genuinely helpful, but she also spoke amazing English, which made everything so much easier. She even saved me from ordering too much food by explaining the generous portion sizes, a small detail that I am so incredibly grateful for. Her honesty and kindness are a testament to what great customer service should be. If I were the owner, I'd make sure to keep her with the business forever! I can’t recommend Güell Tapes Restaurant enough. It’s more than just a meal; it’s a blissful, memorable experience that truly makes you appreciate the little things.

We had a lovely dinner here in Barcelona and I can definitely recommend this place for a cozy evening out. For starters, we tried the bread with tomato, chicken croquettes, and padrón peppers. The bread with tomato was nice (though, honestly, it’s hard to go wrong with bread), the croquettes were delicious, crispy on the outside and creamy inside, while the padrón peppers were a bit disappointing, very bitter and lacking balance. The main dish was chicken paella. The rice itself was excellent - perfectly cooked, full of flavor and with that great texture you want from a paella. The chicken, however, could be improved. The dish was served with pieces on the bone, which makes eating a little less comfortable in a restaurant setting. I’d definitely suggest switching to chicken breast, as it would make the experience smoother and the meat itself more enjoyable. To finish off, we had crème brûlée for dessert, light, sweet, with just the right caramelized top. A very pleasant way to end the meal. Overall, service was quick, dishes arrived without long waiting times, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. It’s a really nice spot for a date night or a relaxed dinner for two. Despite a few small things that could be improved, the overall experience was great - fresh, flavorful food, friendly staff, and a charming vibe. Would happily come back!

Güell Tapas Restaurant is a cozy spot tucked into one of the side streets off La Rambla. I visited in March 2024 for dinner, and my first impression was positive—the receptionist was welcoming, and the decor was pleasant. The seating was comfortable, and the atmosphere felt inviting. However, the service was mixed. While most of the staff were friendly, the waiter who received me was quite rude. As I was new to Barcelona, I asked for a recommendation and was told, “everything is good here, and you can read the menu for what it is.” This response was unhelpful and left a sour taste. Despite this, the food was excellent. I ordered tapas, including calamari, croquettes, and meatballs. The quality was top-notch, with generous portions and authentic flavors. The prices were reasonable, especially given the quality and quantity of the food. Overall, despite the initial service issue, I enjoyed my meal and the atmosphere at Güell Tapas. I would recommend it for its delicious food and cozy setting. Improving staff training in customer service would make a significant difference.

I do not often write a review.

Overall, pretty disappointing experience unlike high ratings on the review on the website.

We ordered mixed seafood paella (average) and sautéed calamari (average to above average). When we were raising curiosity about the water (bottle or tap, and charged vs. free), male server with tattoo on his right forearm (Joel? Joy?), made a gesture with rolled eye with a well noticeable big sigh, and kept on asking, “one or two bottle”. I do not believe his action is a type of racism as he was raising his voice to another table next to ours (older couple).

Possibly a perk for some, there is a designated dining area for people who would like to smoke while having meal or coffee/drink. When we asked if smoking area door could be closed (wide open door the entire time prior to the request) as smoking smell was overpowering over food one (we were sitting 4 tables away from smoking/dining area), he again made gestures that objectively can be viewed that he is annoyed. Combined with food experience (average), our experience at this restaurant was below average at best.

In summary, at least from our experience, this restaurant does not-at-all live up to the high star rating. Sub par if not terrible service definitely played a part in our overall experience.

If you are planning on visiting, I would recommend you, 1) to order small portion first than just fully diving, 2) to lower your expectation when you are being served by male server with a right forearm tattoo.
