We really enjoyed our stay here! I was really excited about the antiquey vibe in this hotel and it did not disappoint. It was also really clean and well-presented. The room was a bit small and old fashioned, but lovely otherwise. One thing I’ve gotta say is that the beds were very uncomfortable, however when we asked them to change the mattresses they happily accommodated (new mattresses weren’t the best but they were still an improvement). With regards to the bathroom, it was almost as big as the room itself, and was kept very clean + had excellent water pressure. Also it does get noisy at night, however that didn’t bother me very much and I was able to sleep comfortably through it, so noise isolation must’ve been decent. We thought it was worth it to be honest because although the area (Las Ramblas) was a bit run down, it’s an iconic and very lively boulevard in barcelona. The hotel was right next to Liceu station so was so easy to get around. Also the beach was only 15 minutes away! Finally, I’ve gotta say that all the staff were incredibly welcoming and friendly, as was everyone in Barcelona anyway!

Aside from the lobby the hotel room and stay was terrible. I would suggest looking at other hotels in the area. The A/C didn’t work during 40C temperatures in Barcelona. The reviews about ac not working are true. Day 1 - Ac wasn’t working. I called reception who advised that the ac was working and i didn’t know how to use it. He did not come up to the room to check or send anyone to check. All windows locked and there was no fan in the room. With the heat wave and temperature approx 40 C outside and humid. Room conditions were terrible in the room Day 2 - After complaining a few times again a maintenance technician came up and confirmed the AC wasn’t working. I wasn’t offered another room but 1 fan. It was now getting extremely difficult to stay in room. We had to sit in the lobby at night to cool off. They finally gave us a 2nd fan and we had to create our own cross circulation by leaving the room door open and using 2 fans Day 3 - They moved us to a smaller room where the AC worked for the last nite

Located on La Rambla, this grand old building must have been quite something back in the day, with its marble columns and staircase, and balcony views of the street below. It turns out that Hans Christian Andersen stayed there once! I could not fault the location; Metro station a couple of minutes away with a whole host of shops and restaurants within easy reach. Sea front also quite close. Facilities are similar to the budget hotel chains in the UK such as Premier Inn. Beds were comfy with pillows I could get on with from the offset. It could get a bit noisy at night-time from outside, but not overly so, the main disturbance being the rumble from the metro trains. We didn't use the breakfast room, but contrary to reviews elsewhere tea and coffee making facilities were available in the room.

Probably one of the worst hotel experiences we’ve ever had. It started at check-in where we had specifically called to make sure that they assigned us a room with one bed but when checking in they gave us one with two. We went back down and they gave us another room still with two beds and finally found a room with one bed which was a downgrade from what we had booked…fine, no problem… The room was at the end of the hotel, with no view and a terrible bathroom where you couldn’t even fit two people. And they forgot to tell us they didn’t have an iron in the room and was told when we asked that we had to bring our items downstairs only early in the morning for pressing. Something that should have been mentioned to us before!

The worst part of this, is that I had forgotten a dress for a wedding, that was custom made, I had hung in the wardrobe along with a jean jacket and a white shirt (the only things I hung out). After an hour and a half of check out I had contacted the hotel to let them know of those items and they said to call back later. After we touched down and left the airport I called again and they said that it’s Sunday and perhaps no one had logged in anything as it’s usually a “lazy day” and said to call back the next day. I did so and I was told that none of the items I spoke of were found. I was livid and wrote an email to ask the hotel to investigate. And after many back and forth emails (and phone calls that were never replied to) the hotel, or whoever I was dealing with on the other end of those emails, said that the only person that entered the room was housekeeping and on the camera footage they were the only ones that went in to the room and apparently didn’t find anything…

All of this to say that they even went as far to say that I probably didn’t forget anything and that I was mistaken….they were unprofessional and dismissed everything….

I would not recommend anyone to go there, especially as it is not safe to keep anything there! I have now lost all of my things and was basically told that I was lying about having forgotten anything in the wardrobe...

The worst hotel ever!

The air conditioning doesn’t cool much - we were sleepless at night every day! We asked them to check and they said it was working as expected. Kids suffered the whole night. When asked to change rooms, they offered us a petty fan which still didn’t help!!

The bathrooms were super small and dirty! The showers didn’t have curtains and had some half glass doors, making the showers impossible without having puddle on floor. Twice, we tried to take shower in evening - and hot water didn’t work for 8-10 min and when called the front desk and within 2 min, it started working in both cases- they apparently don’t expect you to shower in evenings so keep hot water off at night?!!

Free breakfast didn’t look enticing to even eat single bite- we walked in and out first day after seeing food presented in cheap way and didn’t bother after that.

This place is more like hostel for kids who are on low budget, except this hotel is not priced low!

Leaving lollipops on our bed is the cheesiest thing I have ever seen! It’s basics of basic hotel.

Last but not least, the check in was pretty lame- the lady took passports and went at speed of sloth- and 15 min later said to wait in lobby and they are sending someone to our room to check “if it’s ready”- took additional 25-30 min to get the room ready, whatever it meant. I had to go check rather than her following up to let us know the status! And then she started as if she doesn’t know she put us on waiting and said you are...??? What a worst experience from beginning to end of it.

Walls are also very thin- this hotel will surely ruin your Barcelona visit. Sure, location is decent but once you are mistreated by staff and don’t get much sleep, you might as well find a...

The hotel itself is absolutely beautiful and the location is perfect! The rooms, not so much unfortunately. The rooms are a lot less fancy than the hotel itself and the bathroom is really small with an old bathtub shower and curtain. I payed more than 600 euro's for four nights (breakfast included), so I'd expect the rooms to be a bit fancier than those of a simple hotel where I pay a lot less. I know parts of the hotel are being renovated/under construction, but there was a lot of noise almost constantly also.

Next to that, we payed 20 euro's per day for breakfast (bit steep imo). The breakfast was nice and plentiful, except for the coffee, it tasted really, really bad, sorry!

And some advice for everyone leaving early: On the last day we had to leave early, right before breakfast time, but forgot to mention this. The breakfast started at 07:00 and we asked if we could take some with us when we got home the night before (this was after 00:00). They said it was too late to arrange anything which is understandable, but told us we could ask in the morning at the breakfast place itself. So when we left we asked for some breakfast on the go at 06:45. This was not possible and they said we should have told them before midnight the night before. I think this isn't great service, they could have literally given us two slices of bread with some cheese or whatever, but they just said no. So if you have to leave early and payed for breakfast, let them know on time!

No complaints otherwise. It is a great looking hotel right in the centre and there is good 24/7 service with proper English speaking employees. But I do think it's too expensive when you look at the rooms. It feels a bit like you pay for the hotel instead...
