Just adding a couple of 'extras' about this lovely church. Check to see if there is a concert advertised at the entrance... When I was visiting they were selling discounted tickets in the hours before the concert (I caught a fantastic flamenco guitar concert of Spanish music by Ekaterina Zaytseva in the Capella). Also, don't miss the Gegants i capgrossos in the glass case just inside the main doors on the right. These figures date back to 1601 at Maria del Pi, but the Catalan tradition of giant figures probably goes back as far as the 13th century. Similar figures are found in other parts of Spain and in Flemish and Portuguese festivals. Outside the church, check out the architectural details in neighbouring buildings. On the weekends there is an art exhibition / market that has been going since 1975 and you can meet the artists. Plenty of tapas bars with tables in the square to...

It is located in Barcelona's Gothic Quarter (Barri Gòtic) right across from the Mercado de La Boqueria. You will get there by following Carrer del Cardenal Casañas from Liceu metro station (L3). It is one of the favorite places of artists. After all, an open-air art market is set up there on the weekends. In the square is the Basílica de Santa Maria del Pi with an entrance fee of €8. A guided tour inside will reveal to you the most important medieval collection of gold and silver religious objects in Catalonia. You will also have the opportunity to admire the giant Gegants del Pi figures up close. It is considered that they are the oldest that exist in Catalonia. Your visit to the Royal Church of Santa Maria del Pi must be completed with a climb up its bell tower to enjoy the view...

Santa Maria del Pi (Catalan pronunciation: [ˈsantə məˈɾi.ə ðəɫ ˈpi], meaning "St. Mary of the Pine") is a 14th-century Gothic church in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. It is situated on the Plaça del Pi, in the Barri Gòtic district of the city.

There are unsubsantiated claims that there was an early Christian church on the site in 413. However it is known that in 987 there existed a church outside the city walls and to the west of Barcelona. This was a small Romanesque church dedicated to the Blessed Lady of the Pine Tree (one of the titles of the Virgin Mary). The church was built between 1319 and 1391. The style of the church was Catalan Gothic, with a single nave almost devoid of ornamentation. However, in 1936 the church was gutted by a fire and was...

16:30 a guide can take you to the bell tower for a view. The garden is a shaded place to relax. There may be a fat friendly cat. The Basilica of Santa Maria del Pi (Santa Maria of the Pine) is one of the purest examples of Catalan Gothic architecture, completed in 1391. The "neulas" are a typical decoration that evokes snow crystals and winter, and it was hung in many churches during Advent and Christmas seasons. It is a medieval tradition which was especially popular in Catalunya. Today, paper is the most used material for cutting neulas, but in the past this was an expensive material and a very thin flour wafer paste was used in its place. Its fine texture, like a cloud, would be the origin of the word "neula", from the Latin "nebula" (mist).
