Out running errands for the day, so we took a quick lunch stop at Granja Mabel to enjoy their prix fixe menu, a steal at only 16 Euros. We all selected the Ensalada Brie frito con nueces, cherries y vinagre de manzana. Wow, wow, wow! This was possibly the most delicious salad I have had since I moved here a year ago. It was kind of like having a rich salad with all the right ingredients (fresh lettuce, cherry tomatoes, walnuts, and a delightfully-light apple vinagar salad sauce topped with a deconstructed taste of a monte cristo sandwich, with the fresh crisp toasts, delicious jam and a tranche of warm brie. You put them together and its like a monte cristo without the powdered sugar. I will certainly return just to enjoy this delicious salad again. All three of us LOVED it. The first course was very much the highlight of the entire meal.
For our second course I had the Bistec de ternera a la plancha con patatas fritas, and my dining companions had the Cordillo de Cerdo a baja temp. con jugo de carne y trufado, and our third companion had the Cod Fish and chips with sweet potato fries. Silly me, I didn't read carefully and I thought mine was a burger. My dining companion explained that it was just cooked hamburger meat served as is. I asked the server if I could get a bun, and she graciously obliged. So, mine wound up being appatizing thick burger with lots of mustard (my preference). The beef pattie was well-cooked and the burger was very tasty. My dining companion enjoyed her baked pork and our third guest also liked the cod fish and chips she had ordered, which she said were fresh and crispy. Nothing from this second course was 5-star spectacular, but it was an enjoyable entree for each of us.
For the dessert course two of us enjoyed their yummy cheesecake with berry syrup, and the third had a piece of their brownie pie, which was decadently rich and oh-so chocolate. Yum. The desserts were great.
Service was cordial and timely. The server was attentive but did not hover.
All in all, a delightful, relaxed luncheon on their sidewalk terrace protected from the chilly wind by their tent....
