La Cantonada Forn & Pastisseria — Restaurant in Barcelona

I am giving this establishment one star due to the complete lack of understanding of what constitutes proper customer service.

I purchased a rather expensive croissant and requested it to be packaged for takeaway. Instead of using a proper box, as even supermarkets like Bonpreu do, the staff simply wrapped it in a piece of paper. As a result, the fat from the pastry leaked through. When I then asked for a bag, I was told I would have to pay 15 cents for it. Frankly, I find it unreasonable to charge customers for a paper bag—particularly when the quality of provided packaging was so poor. To add to the disappointment, when I expressed my concern about the bag charge, the employee began to argue with me.

It is evident that neither the staff nor the management of this establishment have any understanding of modern customer service standards in 2025. I would suggest they consider training abroad in countries with more developed service cultures—or simply rethink whether they should be in the hospitality business at all.

I strongly advise visitors to Barcelona to avoid this place. Let the owners enjoy their overpriced pastries and listen to the rudeness of their staff themselves. This level of service reflects poorly not just on the business, but on the city's culinary reputation.

I moved to this neighborhood a few days ago and this is my second visit. The croissants were ok but with a sweet coating and nothing to rave about. Today, I dealt with a mid-age short blond hair lady who was extremely rude : while serving me she received a call and instead of putting it on hold (no one waiting after me) she carried on for 2/3 long minutes, then when returning my change, she threw the coins like a bone to a dog without looking at me. At no point she said "gracias" nor "hasta luego/adeu", nor smiled...you know what customers do when you take them for granted ? They stop spending their hard-earned money in your store and go elsewhere. After all, we are in a large city with plenty of choices :) products bought today were also so so, on the dry side (the so called rustic baguette felt like frozen bread reheated), so I guess 1 star is generous, all...
