I visited Barcelona for a solo weekend trip. As a pastry chef, I love exploring new food spots whenever I get the chance. I don’t have any dietary restrictions, but I was curious to see how La Consciente executes their vegan and gluten-free baked goods - and I was SO impressed!

With over 10 years in the food industry, I’ve often found that vegan and gluten-free products don’t quite compare to traditional pastries made with flour and butter. But everything I tried at La Consciente - from the sandwich and baguette to the cookie and doughnut (yes, I went more than once) - was absolutely delicious. Every bite had great texture and flavor.

This Cafe was right near our apartment so was very convenient to get to but the kitchen doesn’t open till 11 so bear that in mind if you’re considering visiting. The coffee we ordered was probably the worst coffee i’ve ever had and the french toast had a weird texture and aftertaste so i had to send it back. I then ordered the Shakshuka which was pretty nice but then when the bill came they tried to charge us for the french toast i couldn’t even eat so i wasn’t very happy with that. I absolutely adore this place!!! I’m vegan and started coming in for their bread after a friend told me they had the best gluten free bread in Barcelona (it’s true - it’s simply divine) when I was suspecting I didn’t react well to gluten. Flash forward a few weeks and I was diagnosed with celiac - and to have La Consciente around makes it so much easier.
