One of the best tapas restaurants. Decently priced altogether, but you definitely can taste the quality and freshness of the ingredients. After all it's next to the Barceloneta market.
Bomba - Definitely a must-get. Smooth and creamy and the flavor is spot on and the salsa brava is spicy. Do not share.
Cap I Pota - So luscious it melts in your mouth. A local catalan dish that has a lot of flavor and richness from the fatty, the cartilagenous, and the meaty pieces. Not for the faint of heart but worth the dare.
Shrimp - Some of the freshest shrimp I've had. Lightly fried and perfectly cooked, sweet and tastes like the pure ocean! A bit pricey though...
Grilled squid - Perfectly cooked it was tender with bite. Lightly drizzled with olive oil so it didn't overpower the flavor of the squid.
Cod - Just breaded enough that it had a slightly crispy shell. The flakes of fish melted in the mouth. Well executed dish that brought out the best of the filet. Another must-get.
Octopus - Stewed pieces of octopus that I was looking for. Tender with a bit of bite. They were definitely fresh too. If you like Octopus you'll need to order this one.
Bread w Tomato - crunchy and chewy slices of bread with flavors of olive oil, tomato and a bit of garlic. A nice complement to the other dishes ordered.
Every dish was perfectly cooked and just wished I had one more bite. Will definitely want to come again to fulfill that craving for...
Read moreI have ups and downs about this place. It is located a less touristic area of the city and the place is much the same. Of course there are lots of tourists but I've seen so many local people more than any restaurant in the city. So this leads us to communication problems. There is one guy at the restaurant who speaks English, the rest of the staff don't speak English, intentionally or not, I don't know. So you may find yourself showing photos of the food that you want to eat. Thats not a big deal but the place doesn't seem very clean as well. I am not saying it is dirty but e.g they brought the wine glasses wet. Also I have not seen any menu or they didn't bring one, so I didn't know what to eat or how much each piece cost. On the other hand the food was simple and as it is which is a plus for me. The bomba was delicious and it's sauce was the strongest and the tastiest of them all. The squid was grilled nicely and had a simple and yummy sauce on top. But the chickpeas was overdone and somehow like mashed. The sardines were tasty and fresh but it was not cleaned and cooked as it is which is not ok for my taste. In short, if you are around Barceloneta neighborhood you can try this place. But if you are far away I don't recommend you to come...
Read moreA renowned tapas bar in the charming Barceloneta, although not the usual tapas you might think of. We first heard of this place in a documentary about Ferran Adriá - the iconic Spanish chef eats here. This old school place mainly serves small portions of seafood dishes. Cod bueñuelos, different preparatrions of squid, octopus and mollusks make up the menu, which hangs on the wall. It’s a family run business and very casual. The patronage is a mix of hipster tourists and senior locals that have been coming here for fresh seafood all their lives. The menu is simple, yet mouthwatering. This place claims to have invented the bomba, which is a croquete made with smashed potatos instead of bechamel. They top it off with a very (Mexican hot) spicy salsa. We would definitely recommed coming early and not on a Monday, when not everything on the menu is available due to seafood delivery schedules. There is terrace service, but sitting inside is part of the charm. Best squid we ever had - grilled with garlic, oilive oil, salt, and parsley. Sometimes...
