Don’t get me wrong: You will eat quite tasty food here. Compliments to the chef. But let me explain: We wanted to treat ourselves to some fine fusion kitchen. When we saw the card, it was immediately apparent that this will be an expensive meal. But if the portions are filling and of great quality for the price they ask for it, that would be fine. Each of use choose one meal (they tend to be on average 16€ if it’s not a „side-dish“). But it turns out once we wanted to place the order, the waitress recommended, or rather pushed us to choose 5 (yes five!) dishes, despite us being two persons. This made it clear that not only are the prices quite absurdly high, the card basically contains only side dishes because the size of what you get for 16€ and more is objectively tiny and not what you would expect.
So first issue: Food quantity is impudently small. Expect no bigger than side-dish amounts even for 16+€. Consider everything on the card a side dish, no matter the price!
The next point is the service: We ended up, upon recommendation, ordering 5 things and therefore going way beyond our budget for the night (even though we went in already expecting to spend a lot). The timing of the dishes was absolutely off. We received a starter first, everything good so far. Then came the side dish order for my main dish, the side dish for another main dish and later the main dish of my partner. We ended up finishing all side dishes and my partner already ate her main dish until (with all plates already empty), the waitress came with my main dish. No explanation or excuse as to why it came around 30-40 minutes after my partners main dish.
The waiters generally exude an air of indifference. They seem like people who are trying out fusion cuisine for a while before opening another hipster cafe in Gracia or working in a Carhartt store next year. But something makes me feel like they won’t accept any criticism or are indifferent to it.
So, unsurprisingly every guest spoke english, which is why I'm also writing this review in the language of their target customers: Wealthy internationals, because a normal local person could not afford these exclusive prices.
In total, you are definitely not getting what you are paying for. For that, they would need to greatly improve the dish timing, waiter attention and especially food quantity. The quality is good, but you can get equal quality, better service and an amount that doesn’t make you leave hungry easily. And yes, even in Barcelonas fancy regions it can be way cheaper and better.
My warning: You pay fine dining prices for average to good food quality, WAY under the average food amount and a sub-average to bad...
Read moreA place where to taste Asia with a touch of Barcelona essence. I recommend this place one hundred percent. Starting with the food, everything is super flavory and yummy. They have veggie and vegan options as well. All "tapas" to share in between two or more. If you are coming alone they have space for you at the bar, which is always a good experience, more interactive with the staff, which is also another highlight of the restaurant. Mikan is a tiny and cozy restaurant, so there is not a lot of staff, but everyone is nice and unique, at least in my opinion. If you are coming with your pet, they have space for you at the terrace and they love animals, they treat my dog super nice everytime I go. Their wine menu is also something to talk about. They have a list of wines that matches every dish in the menu. If you love natural wines you have to go there and try the wines as well. It is definitely an experience of pairing with the food. They also can recommend things to you in a very good range of prices either by the bottle, or by the glass. You can also go to Mikan for a pop-up or a take over, and they organice events as well. Last but not least, it is a safe space, very queer friendly. On the other hand and talking in general, people that goes to Mikan just wants to go there to try good wine and food and to have...
Read moreWas really excited to come here and am extremely disappointed after our meal. Sat on the bar, from the beginning our waitress was moody and unhelpful. Firstly, we were surprised to see the wine prices as they offer multiple bottles that we’ve purchased and enjoyed before from a store a block away at a fraction of the price, so we opted for a glass. Asked about any orange wine that comes by the glass, the waitress didn’t elaborate and just poured what ended being white wine… after asking to try something else that we ended liking, she also failed to pour properly. In one glass, some wax fell in and she continued to pour after noticing and just removed it with a spoon, and the other glass she managed to leave a trail of drops on the counter. As for the food the prawns and mushrooms were good but the mackerel was a disaster, tasted of burnt cooking oil and the plate was covered in oil. We didn’t eat more than two bites and the waitress came to take everything she didn’t ask if we didn’t like it. Overall, won’t be coming back or recommending to anyone. There was not a local in sight (no local would pay these prices) and the food and wine you could easily find better and fairer price anywhere in Barcelona or even in the...
