Beautiful food, perfect execution, focus on fermented foods and eating for your health, lovely lady who does absolutely everything.
We stopped in on a day they were sort of half open, they only had a few things on the menu plus dessert. So we gave it a try and I’m so glad we did.
We started with some juicy, plump shumai dumplings that were bursting with meat.
Then butterfish pan cooked. It was brushed in a sake mirin marinade that was divine. The fish was cooked just perfectly, meaty tender, crispy exterior from the pan sear.
I’ve had miso/honey eggplant before and I always enjoy it, here it was a beautiful execution of this somewhat popular dish. The eggplant was so silky and rich, not bitter at all.
Last in our savory food items was the ramen. Very good, beautiful springy noodles and I liked the meat because it was very lean. My dining partner is more a fan of the typical charshiu meat that has a good amount of fat, so for him it was his least favorite. I liked it since I tend to remove the fat (yes, I know, flavor… but I just don’t enjoy chewing on fat). And the broth was very clean, not rich and buttery, so for me I really enjoyed it. A very healthy ramen, that was very satisfying.
For dessert we had buckwheat crepe with oat milk cream and sweet potato filling. It was so tasty!
I also really love their high quality loose leaf green tea.
There was only the one lady when we went. She handled everything from service, to cooking, to cleaning.. You could really tell that she put her heart into the food she served.
Overall it was comforting like eating at someone’s home, but truly delicious with high quality restaurant worthy food.
I really hope this place stays in business! Down the street, Kibuka is way more popular. I didn’t even know this place existed in all my years of living in Gracia. I don’t know why, but on Google maps it doesn’t show up unless you...
Read moreMy wife and I stopped in here for lunch by chance as we were passing and I am so glad we did. You don't normally associate Barcelona with Japanese food, but the wealth of fresh produce and seafood makes it a great location for it. And Taoyaca makes the most of this, serving some of the most wonderful Japanese food I've had, both in Japan and around the world.
We had the Yakisoba, which was very good but quite light, with only a small amount of pork, compared to the bulky versions I've had elsewhere. The other main was a Tempura noodle soup which was amazing.
The decor is cosy, bathrooms very clean and the service was...
Read moreAn amazing japanese restaurant. Went there for my boyfriend’s birthday and we couldn’t have chosen a better place. All the food was very tasty but for me the best part was sushi. The quality of the fish was the best I’ve ever had in Barcelona without doubt. The staff were all very friendly, and they even helped us put the birthday candles in my boyfriend’s dessert! One thing everybody should know is that they add wasabi to all the nigiris (at least to those that are one of each, that cost 22€ or so), I guess if you don’t like wasabi you should ask them to not add it.. For the rest, the best japanese...
