Casilda jatetxea — Restaurant in Bilbao

Please don’t go! We were looking for a nice place where to have a relaxed dinner. Indeed, the place looks quite nice and so we decided to have dinner there.

We had two main courses, both with fish, and one of them was the famous cod cooked in the Basque’s way.

Well, considering the prices we were expecting very high quality food. This wasn’t the case. One of the dish was extremely tasteless and veggies were overcooked. The bacalau was supersalty (over the normal level) and the dish was also just a mix of things made together. We paid an average of a 20 euro per dish, which were definitely not worthy.

The food was honestly really good — full of flavor and definitely worth trying. Unfortunately, the service was a different story… let’s just say McDonald’s might have them beat on that front (and that’s not exactly a compliment).

What really made me sad was that so many delicious-looking dishes on the menu weren’t actually available. It felt a bit like being handed a treasure map only to find out the chest was empty.

Great taste, but if they could step up the service and actually serve what’s on the menu, this place could...

I enjoyed the weekday Menu del dia so I returned on a weekend but had a very different experience second time around. Slow service even though I dropped by in an off-hour for lunch. Ordered Menu fin de semana and was disappointed with the food quality and the portion. For the price, it was not worth it. It was as if I had a kid's size meal. I left the place still hungry.
