I’ll admit, it was a Friday night, I didn’t have reservations, I was hungry and it was late.
With that said, should you be in my same situation: skip it. It’s just disappointing. The food is subpar and not worth the money or time. Go grab Burger King. It won’t be a culinary experience, but you know exactly what you’ll get and you’ll likely be happy with it.
The staff was very nice, but it’s clear they were short or had more business than they could handle.
The food. Unremarkable. Uninspired. Uninteresting.
I ordered the “Ensalada de Queso” (cheese salad) and the Salmon a la Plancha (grilled salmon).
The salad was a spring mix with cubed cheese tossed into it. Boring at best.
The grilled salmon. It came as I was halfway done with my salad, which made for an awkward moment. I just asked the waiter to put it on the table so it could get cold while I finished my salad. The salmon was bland. The presentation was boring: some iceberg lettuce, three thin slices of salmon and some roasted potatoes. The roasted potatoes were soggy, bland and sprinkled with paprika. This seemed more lazy than anything, as it didn’t really season them. You just had slices of soggy roasted potatoes that were half bland and half covered in paprika. I ate the salmon and asked for the check. Didn’t even want to...
Read moreWe were too hungry and careless and ended up trying this place because they were the only ones serving carrilladas. ordered Carrilladas and Lentejas. Both were bland. We had to ask for salt, which helped a little bit. The lentejas con chorizo had bits of morcilla and one small piece of chorizo which appeared to be added after the lentils were cooked since none of its flavor was in the guisado. The carrilladas were bland and tougher than a carrillada could possibly be. I had to ask for the olives that all the other tables got with their drinks. They charged us 1 euro per piece of bread. No other restaurant that we had eaten at on the street charged us for bread. There are two levels of service here. Poor to fair for tourists and good for locals and Spanish tourists. Avoid this place. There’s better food and service at any of the other...
Read moreNOTICE TO POSSIBLE CUSTOMERS: This business is a tourist trap. The site and area are cozy but don't be fooled. The drinks are usually expensive. They use the bread trick to charge you one euro per person and not ask (In Spain there is a law that prohibits serving anything that the customer has not ordered). The food is usually frozen. The only thing they do daily is salmorejo. Oxtail is usually frozen and thawed for service. If you order paella for several people, they have taken part of what you paid, they buy the paellas already made and the only thing they do is heat them. Don't order yogurt, custard or rice pudding for dessert because they buy it at the Carrefour on the corner. The owner takes the ice for the drink with her hand. They usually have cockroach and rat infestations. The bathrooms are not new because currently the law requires them to be remodeled and carry out works. The refrigerators where they store wine and some drinks have not been cleaned for years. What they sell you as sangria is made with cans of fruit bought at Carrefour. The owner does not have her workers registered for the hours they work. The owner smokes inside the bar.
