Restaurant Pizzeria Roma — Restaurant in Ciutadella

Food is excellent. We loved the pizza, salads, bravas and very nice wine too. Unfortunately, the cheesecake was not great at all. We've visited Menorca before and have always had delicious cheesecake, and before ordering we made sure to ask: is the cheesecake made on site in the kitchen here, and is it made with Menorcan cheese.

When it arrived we took one bite and told the waiter that unfortunately it tasted like UK supermarket cheesecake, and not the Spanish/Basque cheesecake we are used to. It has that plastic-y taste to it and was incredible bland, and also not soft like cheesecake should be.

That's fine and that should have been the end of that. Instead, we got given attitude about the waiter who said it was "the best cheesecake." No, it's not. I can name five other places in Ciutedella who do it better.

To add insult to injury, he included the cheesecake on the bill. When I argued this, he told us we had taken a bite. OF COURSE?! How else must we know unless we taste it? The whole experience was stupid and unnecessary.

Absolutely ridiculous attitude from him again over this small matter. In the end it was removed, but we won't return. Very...

From the minute I called to make the booking they couldn't have been more helpful, the website said there was no availability so I thought I'd check and the man went out of his way to find us a table, it was beautifully decorated in a simple fresh style and although you can't book tables outside on the cobbled streets that we would have preferred the inside restaurant was very pleasant. The attentive and friendly staff were so professional and very nice and made the evening very enjoyable. I ordered lasagne which you think it's just a simple dish but wow, it was absolutely gorgeous, nice size portion and the garlic bread was almost like fried bread, just yum! My son had carnonara, we both said it was the nicest meal we've had since our holiday, my husband and other son had pizza which was also very nice. We already booked for later in the week on our way out! You need to book to avoid disappointment and if you want to experience the authentic outdoor dining it's a case of turning up and waiting which to be honest it's such a nice buzzy atmosphere outside we will try to do. Havíem anat a aquest restaurant amb anterioritat i sempre va ser tot molt correcte, excepte ahir. Fets que van passar:

La reserva de la taula la vam fer l'11 d'agost per a poder anar a sopar el 26 d'agost, perquè no es podia fer reserva si no era a les 19h. Però aconseguim reservar a les 20h, malgrat haver d'esperar 16 dies per a anar. De fet, ens feia molta il·lusió anar-hi. Ara he de dir que no hi tornarem.

Dia 26/8/24. Tenim reserva a les 20h. Som 4 (dos adults + 2 nens). Ens asseiem quan arribem. Dir que els tempos seran importants pel qual acabarà passant.

El cambrer triga uns 10 minuts en demanar-nos què volem per a menjar i beure (però és ben normal en ple mes d'agost). Una vegada demanat, i esperar una estona correcta, ens porten els primers. Havíem demanat 2 plats així que hi havia els primers i després, els segons. Quan acabem els primers, retiren els plats buits per a portar-nos els segons. Una hora més tard, més o menys a les 21,20h, ja estem de tot, i el cambrer ens porta la carta de les postres. Ens llegim la carta de postres, i veient com la taula del costat estan menjant un tiramisú, ens disposem a demanar un, i també un coulant. Jo personalment demanaria un cafè, i les postres les menjarien la meva dona i els meus fills.

Arriba el mateix cambrer que ens havia portat la carta de postres per a prendre nota del que volem, i al mateix instant, quan ell té la llibreta i el bolígraf a la mà, una altra cambrera s'acosta ràpidament i ens deixa la nota sense haver-la demanat, a sobre la taula. Parlo amb ells, dirigint-me a ella: "Perdó és que ens heu portat la nota i estem demanant les postres". El cambrer que ens està prenent nota parla amb la seva companya, i a continuació se'ns acosta per a dir-nos que ho sent molt, que li sap greu, però que no pot prendre'ns nota de les postres, perquè necessiten la taula per a altres persones i que hem de marxar. La meva filla, de 9 anys, em diu que si ens estan fent fora, i li responc que sí. Com que la nota està damunt la taula, paguem i marxem.

En aquell moment podíem haver demanat pel responsable perquè donés la cara, o podíem haver demanat el full de reclamacions i quedar-nos en la taula... Però no. Vam pagar i ens en vam anar. A vegades cal ser educat i no assemblar-se als altres.

Mai, en els 47 anys que tinc, m'havien fet fora d'un lloc quan estàvem feliçment demanant les postres i el cafè amb la família. El fet és que nosaltres vam menjar al ritme que ells ens van marcar en portar els plats i begudes, i si necessitaven la taula per quan demanàvem les postres, es podien haver coordinat millor, sense tanta improvisació entre ells (un ens prenia nota i l'altra que ens feia marxar). O molt millor, haver-nos dit des d'un principi que a tal hora havíem de ser fora.

Segurament rebrem un "disculpi les molèsties, no sabem com va passar... etc etc". Però el mal ja està fet. I els que estem decebuts som nosaltres.
