After reading the reviews and peeking at the menu, I chose La Taverna for my last dinner on my recent trip to Figueres thinking I’d be willing to splurge to have a delicious last meal and fun and friendly service, but I did not have that experience.
My experience left much to be desired. Some disclosures: I was solo and also a vegetarian, I knew going into dinner that the (very few) veg entree options were not appealing and I’d potentially pay 20+ to have an appealing entree with a veg substitution.
I went in about 2 hours from closing, and I was one of 2-3 tables that were filled so I’m assuming the lack of attentive service was a result of wanting to close up shop and head home which is something I can understand.
My first few interactions with waitstaff were seemingly friendly, and I mentioned I was vegetarian and ordered some beverages. My server changed and the server who took my food order fluctuated between being unfriendly and seemingly indifferent. I started with a couple tapas dishes that were particularly bland (the goat cheese balls with clementine were decent) and tried to catch my server a few times over the next 30 mins with no luck.
Eventually I just cut my losses on ordering dinner and flagged down my first server and ordered the chocolate cake dessert (pictured) that the menu said would need 20 minutes in the oven.
My other server came back about 30 minutes or so later and asked if I needed anything and I mentioned the dessert. A short while later it arrived and it was very clearly not fresh. Stale and pretty dry, not even the Catalan crème it’s served with could remedy that.
I stomached what I could and decided to just lay my bill and accept my defeat. I seemingly caught them on a less-than-stellar night, but judging by other reviews I’m sure lots of that had to do with not being able to enjoy the full extent of what they offer.
I would also just caution against going here as a solo traveler, it seems the vibe based on the atmosphere is more of a tourist trap for bigger groups of travelers as opposed to being the special, quality dining experience I was hoping for given the reviews and...
Read moreTerrible place! DO NOT GO! Food is terrible! Service is horrendous. We came in 14 people, my 15 months old daughter was crying, my wife asked for a piece of bread, he told her “relax, we will bring it when we get to it”. Then they proceeded to spill water on one of the kids, cofee on me, never cleaned any plates off the tables. And proceeded to give an attitude! Not one person apologized! And the name of our server was Ricardo! And his response that we were Americans! Forget that, the food was terrible, kids and adults did not eat anything! Plenty of...
