My anticipation for dining at BODEGA CHAROLAIS has been building since I moved to Fuengirola last year. However, my recent Valentine's Day experience there was a significant letdown. While the evening started promisingly with a complimentary glass of cava and an amuse-bouche, the excitement quickly dwindled once the food arrived.
The crispy prawns with sweet and sour sauce were unremarkable, tasting like something straight out of a supermarket aisle. The artichokes with bacon didn't fare much better; they were forgettable at best.
Things took a turn for the worse when our main courses arrived. The suckling lamb chops were minuscule and thin, resembling more of a starter portion than a main dish. Accompanied by overcooked vegetables, the entire plate was a disappointment. The duck suffered a similar fate – overcooked and burned, and worst of all, everything was served cold. It was a struggle to even finish a portion of the mains.
Despite expressing our dissatisfaction to the waitress, the only consolation offered was a complimentary dessert, which I declined since I'm not a fan of sweets. Moreover, to add to the disappointment, we were served a different wine than the one we had ordered. Despite requesting a 2020 bottle, we were presented with a 2021 vintage, and unfortunately, the staff didn't offer any substantial acknowledgment when we brought this to their attention.
Overall, the experience fell far short of our expectations. Dining out should be a special treat, surpassing what you can create at home. Unfortunately, BODEGA CHAROLAIS failed to deliver, and with plenty of nicer and more affordable restaurants in the area, we won't be returning or recommending it to others. The Michelin recommendation seems baffling, considering the poor quality of the food, a wine list written in pencil, and an overall unpleasant...
Read moreWe came here for a special celebration dinner based on Michelin reviews. We were quite disappointed as the service was very rough, something we haven’t experienced at other Michelin restaurants. My meal was excellent, but my spouses beef tenderloin was so tough he didn’t even finish, a first. The starters and dessert were also very good. We had three different waitstaff who kept saying things like ‘ I don’t know the wine, my colleague will come’, or they didn’t know the menu, and their colleague would come etc. I asked a few times to have something on the menu explained before I could order. After one staff said they didn’t know another came over and spoke sharply explaining poorly what the ingredients were. We were asked to order our wine before we could decide on food. The waitstaff who brought the wine didn’t know anything about it. She also poured approximately 2 oz into our glasses. We filled to 4-5 oz but every time she poured it was a tiny dribble- very annoying. She asked how we enjoyed our meal. As my husband passed back 50% of his tough tenderloin and most of his overcooked and undersalted veg, he said it was very tough and he didn’t enjoy it. She took his plate with no further comment. We shared a dessert, my husband ordered a very nice crepe and she brought me a plate with one of her very long very black hairs coiled upon it. I passed it back to another waitstaff and asked for another. This waiter said nothing, just brought a new plate. We had asked for some wine with our dessert. Again, we were told ‘ my colleague knows about the wine’. We asked a second time. The colleague never arrived, so we did without and left as soon as the dessert was finished. A real disappointment. The restaurant was not very full and the staff were...
Read moreMy recent visit toCharolais left me with a sense of dissatisfaction. Despite the pleasing outdoor patio, the overall dining experience was far from impressive.
While the establishment's outdoor seating provided a nice atmosphere , the culinary offerings were a letdown. The sea bass, for instance, was overcooked and swimming in oil, rendering it far from enjoyable. The pasta fared no better, achieving nothing beyond what one might expect from a run-of-the-mill cantina. Such lack of innovation and attention to detail was particularly disappointing given the prices charged.
Adding to the disappointment was the lackluster service. Despite the occasion being a birthday celebration, the restaurant failed to acknowledge it, neglecting to inquire about dessert options. It's disheartening when such special details are overlooked, especially after mentioning it during the reservation process. The waiter never made an appearance to inquire about the quality of our meals, further highlighting the mediocre service.
The overall ambiance of the restaurant was, at best, average. All in all, my recent visit to Charoilais was marked by overcooked seafood, uninspired pasta, and a distinct absence of attentive service. The lack of both culinary excellence and proper customer care makes it highly unlikely that I would choose to return...
