However, I must share a remarkable gem I've discovered: La Doña Mexican Gastronomia Restaurant in Gijón, Asturias, Spain, run by my dear friends Manolo and Carmen, serves some of the most authentic Family Mexican dishes I’ve ever tasted.

Having visited this culinary haven four times, I can confidently say that each dining experience is a delightful journey into the heart of Mexican gastronomy. The authenticity of the flavors is simply astounding. Their homemade salsa is a vibrant blend that dances on your palate, boasting a perfect balance of zest and heat that elevates each bite.

And then, there are the Margaritas—oh, the Margaritas! They are a heavenly complement to any meal, expertly crafted to deliver that flawless balance of sweetness and tartness that makes you savor every sip. Just when you think the experience couldn’t get any better, you’re treated to live music performed by the charming Manolo, creating an enchanting atmosphere that envelops you like a warm embrace.

Ubicado en pleno centro de Gijón, La Doña es una excelente opción si buscas comida mexicana auténtica y un ambiente lleno de color. Eso sí, aparcar puede ser todo un desafío, especialmente los fines de semana, así que mejor ir mentalizado o con tiempo.

La decoración del local está cuidada al detalle, con motivos mexicanos que te transportan de inmediato, y el espacio es acogedor: una barra, unas pocas mesas al entrar y un comedor más amplio al fondo.

El personal es otro de sus puntos fuertes. Las camareras que nos atendieron fueron muy amables y atentas, lo que siempre se agradece en un lugar concurrido como este. Por cierto, recomiendo hacer reserva previa porque suele estar lleno, sobre todo por su buena fama y cocina casera.

Hablando de la comida, diría que es casera y sabrosa, pero no me dejó boquiabierto. Probamos varios platos: los nachos machos, las enchiladas, los tacos al pastor y los de cochinita pibil. De todos ellos, lo que más destacó fueron los tacos al pastor, acompañados de unas tortitas con un genuino sabor a maíz. La experiencia estuvo bien, aunque he probado mexicanos que me han gustado más, incluso en la misma Gijón.

La verdadera estrella de la noche fue uno de los postres: la tarta de la abuela. Probamos tres diferentes, pero esa fue la que se llevó el premio mayor. Sencillamente espectacular.

En cuanto al precio, pagamos unos 35€ por cabeza, un poco elevado en mi opinión. Sin embargo, hay que tener en cuenta que pedimos una jarra de margarita que costaba 26€, ¡pero cómo decir que no a una buena margarita para acompañar la experiencia!

Shocked I haven't reviewed this on here! I love this restaurant. You always get great value and the food is exceptional. The owner sings and plays guitar for the customers which creates a very authentic atmosphere. It's something I've never found in England and something which will bring me back again and again.
