Recoveco - Disgusting, overpriced, old, greasy, rude staff, unhygienic toilets, and an intrusive waiter who touched our child’s face
Staff: The waiter: Instead of just letting us order, he persistently tried to push a dish on us that wasn’t even on the menu. After we decided to order the menu’s "fritura mixta"—since we were in the mood for fried seafood—he remarked that the fritura mixta was nothing but garbage, directly referring to the dishes on offer! Unappetizing, embarrassing, and above all, unbelievably unprofessional. You really have to wonder what goes through the mind of a waiter who calls his own food trash. The waiter also appeared unkempt and confused – as if he had lost track of everything.
Food: A 16-euro platter that is almost unparalleled in audacity: an unappetizing, pitiful heap of fried bits. With a lot of goodwill, we could perhaps identify four calamari, three pimientos, three shrimp, three pieces of octopus, four papas arrugadas, and something else that resembled more of a pile of fried breadcrumb crumbs – maybe the remnants stuck to a fryer sieve. Was it really that bad? Unfortunately, yes.
Everything had a texture and flavor somewhere between spoiled and grease-soaked. Old, soaked in used oil, stale, and served so carelessly that words fail you. The salad consisted of the inner, white-brownish part of an iceberg lettuce – like a leftover that no one else wanted to use.
We also ordered fried cheese – another disappointment: On the outside, just a dark, greasy, stale-tasting coating that practically smothered the cheese. The cheese itself was barely identifiable, cheap, and definitely frozen. A culinary insult and simply outrageous for the price.
We ordered fries for the child – at least edible, but definitely not homemade. Clearly frozen fries, at best mediocre.
The orange juice for the child came already poured in a glass, as if it had been sitting there for hours. Sweet, stale, and probably made from syrup. Most likely mixed in the kitchen and then left standing – just disgusting and, above all, ridiculously little.
After a few disgusted bites, we left everything on the table.
The height of insolence: Charging 16 euros for unbelievably bad frozen seafood, while you can buy 500 grams of fried calamari at the supermarket for 2.80 euros. The pricing is outright exploitation, and the quality is simply abysmal.
The only thing that was actually okay: the beer. It wasn’t homemade. This really makes you wonder if it’s even legally permissible to sell such poor quality and so little for such a price. You should really be able to get your money back – at least for the food.
WC: The restrooms: a nightmare in yellow. The urinals were filled to the brim – an absolute disgrace. If the restroom hygiene reflects the kitchen hygiene, you’d rather not imagine what’s going on behind the scenes.
Inappropriate Behavior: To top it off, at one point, as he passed by, the waiter suddenly grabbed our child’s nose and played the “I stole your nose” game. While some might find it amusing, it was completely inappropriate and intrusive. In many cultures, touching a child’s face like that is an absolute no-go.
Conclusion: Recoveco should seriously consider rebranding as a museum of gastronomic disasters. How anyone can mess up something as simple as ready-made, deep-fried frozen seafood so badly is truly an art form. Maybe the waiter was trying to warn us with his “garbage” comment – unfortunately, it wasn’t a joke.
What a waste of time, money, and appetite. We eat out frequently, and we normally don’t write reviews – but this experience was so catastrophic that we feel the need to warn other tourists. Considering the poor quality, we’re left fearing potential food poisoning, especially for ourselves and the kids. We just hope to stay healthy – and that no one else falls into this definition of a...
Read moreMy experience of this place was so bad that I have found it hard to write a review because I did not want to relive the awful experience of this place. My wife and I were treating my daughter and her husband and two children and a baby to a meal on the day of their flight home to the UK.
We ordered drinks, starters and main courses and service was painfully slow. It was 2 hours before we got our main courses but before that our drinks order was incorrectly delivered because my daughter’s sangria did not arrive and the garlic bread we had ordered did not arrive with the starters (or at all). We ignored the failure to produce the garlic bread because our other starters all arrived and we were hungry, having already waited for over an hour. My daughter and son-in-law-law both had Avocado and Prawns as their starters and both agreed the prawns were so tough they left them. They let me try one and I bit it in half. It was dry and chewy like leather. I too left the remainder.
When the main courses belatedly arrived I had ordered “fillet steak stroganoff”, which was poor but with some nice chips. I don’t know what sort of beef they used but it was lots of small chunks and I’m confident it wasn’t fillet steak. The waiter came to the table and asked if the meal was alright and I said, “since you ask, we have waited a very long time for this food; this is not fillet steak as advertised, my daughter and son-in-law both had starters that were disgusting. You failed to deliver one of our starters……” Before I could finish he threw up his hands and literally ran away. My son-in-law said he has gone to get somebody, which was my analysis too. However, nobody ever came back to our table before we left!
When we got up to leave they handed me the bill, which I never made any effort to avoid, but of course they included the garlic bread they had failed to provide so I got that removed and paid the balance in full with no tip. The whole experience left a very sour taste in the mouth. The only positive I can think of is that nobody got food poisoning from the disgusting prawns. When that is the best part of a meal out it is clear it is time for the restaurant to cease trading and hand over to a business that knows what it is doing. I’ve had five star experiences at 4 different restaurants in Corralejo in the previous week but this is a reminder of how bad...
Read moreHolidaying in October '23 for as hadn't been to Fuerteventura for a few years due to pandemic & so only a short 5 days & glad to be back. Some of our usual go to places had changed & coming from the beach this had been the 1st restaurant we passed. The Gent on front of house approached us as we reviewed the menu & stopped short asking I we didn't mind being disturbed & provided a run down of the establishment, the menu, the specials & kitchen & left us with that information. Not a hard or pressured sell like majority who almost walk up to you with menus trying to steer you in & disappointed look when you don't. We got the information & he stood back but open to questions. Nice mot to be pressured We walked on as we wanted to stroll down through old town as it was early. As I said some usual spots had changed so we went back to here. We weren't disappointed & had the most amazing food. Service was good & owner is involved too making sure service was good. Our son had food he's never had the inclination for or tried before based on what he saw coming out on plates. We dined here 2 nights in a row before heading home and our only disappointment is that we did t head down the town each night we were there & find them so we would have dined here daily Just found out sisters brother is heading to Fierteventura so we've sent details of here to them as recommended 👌 Will be our regular spot...
