Loco León — Restaurant in León

This restaurant is directly opposite the cathedral in the centre of León, so you pay quite a healthy margin for convenience and location.

Two of the staff were friendly. One of the servers made it very clear that we were not welcome unless we ordered food. Fair enough in a tourist trap, I guess, but not really necessary to be quite so pushy.

The nachos and guacamole were quite good. You get a massive pestle and mortar and mash the ingredients up yourself - fresh avocado, mango, red onion, walnuts and lime. Tasted very nice. The roasted leek and pancake looked a bit disappointing. Very small portion, especially considering the price.

Drinks are expensive too of course, but the measures of spirits are generous.

Being from León but living abroad since 20 years, i was glad to see a new place with amazing views to the Cathedral. The place looks also nice but that's about all that can be shared positive. First, i was standing there for a while till one of the waiters finally paid any attention to me, who just wanted to know whether we could take one of the set tables for a drink. Guess the answer: obviously not. 😂 Not a problem, we waited so long that one of the "drinking tables" got empty. Then we ordered and while serving our drink - which, by the way, was rudely offered - and the waiter spilled it on me and didnt even apologize 😳 Then, the bill came: 5.60 for two local "claretes" (rosé). Painfully Slow service if a tourist, despite ordering in Spanish and trying to fit in as much as possible.

Waitress looked like I’d ruined her day by ordering coffee, and when I went to pay ( again speaking Spanish), she directed me to the toilets in a moody voice. No eye contact when paying the bill, no thank you, just made me feel like I was an annoyance really. Really bad vibe from the woman.

Shame, as this is the second time customer service in this type of cafe has been poor towards tourists. And I’m trying to speak as much Spanish as I can!!
