Barlovento Tragos y Bocados — Restaurant in Málaga

I had a Sex on the beach and gyozas, husband had a daiquiri and wings. The cocktails were incredible, perfectly balanced and garnished wonderfully. Crafted to precision. I loved the gyozas but the wings were a little bland because guacamole alone can’t perk them up enough, they needed a little sauce, dressing or dip to make them flavorful. Service was a little flat but everything arrived promptly. I disagree that the lack of restrooms should impact a review of this place because none of these establishments have them and so that is out of their control entirely and not fair to penalize based on that. Also i feel disparaging the lack of English speaking servers (ours spoke English) is unfair as this is a Spanish speaking country and the world doesn’t revolve around the english language. I can’t speak to the food because I didn’t get to order any. I was attracted to this place because of its gorgeous outside dining area right opposite the water. Also, I checked the menu and liked the sound of the prawn rolls, the chicken gyoza etc. Unfortunately I did not know until after I’d gone in, sat down and ordered a drink that they did not have any of those options available. I was told I could only order a salad or sandwich.

The service was not welcoming, warm, friendly or understanding. The waitress pushed me in the direction of the mango salad a couple of times. When I said not to worry (thinking I’ll go elsewhere) I was told the drink I’d ordered was already being made. Okay fine, I’ll stay just for the drink then!

Unfortunately the drink (smoked almond) was way too sweet but I stayed and tried to finish it anyway. At least the scenery...

If you ever find yourself in Málaga whether you’re a tourist passing through or a local in the know make sure you stop by Barlovento.

That’s where I met Miguel, and let me tell you, he’s not just a bartender he’s an experience. The moment I saw him I said, “Can I take a photo with you?” because honestly, he just looked amazing. His whole presence, the energy, the moustache (which deserves its own award), everything about him had this effortlessly cool vibe.

And if you’re lucky enough to not only be served by him but also snap a photo together? That’s a memory you’ll want to keep. He brings the kind of energy that turns a drink into a moment...
