Mezcal Gastrobar Mexicano — Restaurant in Málaga

Very underwhelming.

Speaking as an American with access to truly good Mexican at home and as someone who’s traveled to Mexico numerous times. This place looks good on the menu, but that’s about where it stops.

Review of my orders: chicken enchiladas more like really wet pulled chicken tacos with way too much sauce. My wife said “make’s Chipotle seem like a 5 star Mexican restaurant”

Fried shrimp tacos The batter the shrimps are fried in is too much for my taste.

-“Mole” chicken tacos It was just regular chicken, there was nothing mole about it. Bland and boring.

-“Birria” taco Not really birria, just shredded beef, again bland and boring.

Shrimp Taco I actually enjoyed these, the flavors made sense, the shrimp was cooked perfectly.

Overall, just a very average/below average place.

One thing that really annoyed me was all the tacos came served on top of two tortillas, but the tortillas were staggered with the toppings in the middle? It was impossible to pickup and eat like a taco.

I dined here tonight, and unfortunately, it was very disappointing. We had a reservation for six people and arrived at an almost empty restaurant. Everything was fine until we got our food, which was served at different times, leaving some of us with cold meals.

Out of nowhere, the music suddenly changed and was turned up way too loud. It felt like we had walked into a hard rock restaurant, which was completely inappropriate for this type of dining experience.

When I mentioned the issue while paying, the waiter didn’t take any responsibility. Instead of understanding our concern, he blamed someone else, making it seem like it wasn’t their fault. As someone who works in the service industry myself, I know this is not how guests should be made to feel.

I hope management sees this review and addresses the issue with the team to ensure it doesn’t...

Mezcal is one of our favorite places in Malaga!!! The service was amazing! The food delicious (tacos Al Pastor were my favorite) quesadillas, tacos, shrimp ceviche, guacamole all fantastic! The drinks were great!!! You can even order them to go, which was perfect for us since we stayed right around the corner. The service really could not have been better at this location one block off of Larios. My husband forgot his reading glasses there and the waitress remembered him two days later when we just popped by to say hi, so we had to have another margarita!! Mezcalrita was my favorite!!
