MAMA ROUS TAPAS BAR — Restaurant in Mérida

My favorite dining experience in Mérida was at Mama Rous. All of the tapas we tried were absolutely delicious — the curried chicken meatballs, the cazon de adobo (fish), moussaka (a daily special), some fish tempura in a chinese bun, and a pork dish with carmelized onions and fried shallots. It’s the kind of place you don’t see that often anymore — a one of a kind establishment doing it’s own thing and in a very authentic and energetic way. They have a terrace and tables outside....

Chicho and Rosa have a lovely little bar in Mérida right next to all the main attractions. They have a great selection of wines (many of them from the region where they are based) and you can tell that they really care about their customers. We had dinner at their bar in January 2022 and we did enjoy the wines and the food but most of all the warm service and lovely chat they offered us after our meal. Thank you very much indeed...

Nos sentamos a las 14:30 en la terraza y hasta 15 minutos después no vinieron a retirarnos la mesa de los comensales anteriores y tomarnos nota de la bebida. Luego le pedimos la carta hasta 3 veces y no nos la trajeron, tuvimos que buscarla por internet. Tras reiteradas veces intentando que nos atendieran para pedir la comida, nos indican que las comandas van por turnos, siguiendo el orden de llegada, es decir, tienes que esperar a que las demás mesas decidan pedir y a que salga toda la comida de esa mesa que va antes para luego tomarte nota. Tras esperar 45 minutos (sin la mesa limpia ni la carta) , vemos que le toman nota a una pareja que había llegado 10 min mas tarde que nosotros, parece ser que los camareros conocían al señor y le dieron prioridad injustamente. Llamamos al camarero para pedirle explicaciones (50 min esperando ya) y nos dijo que esperáramos que ahora volvía, volvió para traerle la comida a esta pareja y ni se acordó de nuestro requerimiento. Terminamos pagando las dos bebidas y expusimos nuestra queja sin recibir contestación ninguna. Fue vergonzoso, tuvimos que irnos a las 15.30 aprox. , tras haber perdido el tiempo esperando...
