Mesón El Pestorejo — Restaurant in Mérida

Typical tourist trap restaurant in the Plaza de Espana. We had a couple of drinks there in the evening and it was OK, so we agreed to meet our friends there for breakfast. The waiter was slow, made a mistake with a very simple order, and didn't seem to care. But the worse thing was the bathroom! I went to the gents, the toilet was blocked with you know what and masses of toilet paper and the floor was filthy. This was at 10:30 in the morning, so clearly nobody had cleaned up from the night before, and it was not busy. If the toilets are like this I dread to think what the kitchen is like.

The food was decent but nothing special and if you’re looking for fast service to move onto your next experience in Merida, forget it. This was the second time coming here in hopes of having a better experience but the second visit was just as terrible as the first. The service here is terrible. They forgot the food that we ordered, were not at all attentive to our table and were rude in all aspects of service. Bathrooms are absolutely disgusting and my entire group could not wait to leave this establishment. I had a very bad experience here. The service on the terrace is non existent, but they still charge you 10% for it. I had to literally chase the waitress around the terrace to get a bill. Then, she disappeared and I had to hang around waiting to pay, despite calling her over. Finally, I had enough of this shambolic place, marched over to the bar and complained loudly about the service. I received no apology.
