Let me tell you about the absolutely WORST experience I had in Madrid dining

We were guests at the Doubletree hotel and returned late one night for this Japanese restaurant. We called in advance and asked them if they will receive us to which they said Yes. We arrived at 10:20(restaurant closes at 11pm) First of all the super rude maitre d’ instantly said “impossible “ to our request of being seated When we told him we had called already, he seated us in the bar area and ignored us for 15 mins, wouldn’t take our order. We then went up to him and told him to take the order as the restaurant closes in 30 mins. Grudgingly and with much huffing and puffing he took our order and disappeared into the kitchen. Next thing we know, the chef comes ambling out of the kitchen in a mood, and tells us that our order can not be prepared because the kitchen is closing. We explained what had happened, that we were waiting for 40 mins already and it’s the fault of the maitre d’. Chef says well I can’t prepare your meal, because I need my sleep and I have to close the kitchen. By this time we are hungry, kids are exhausted and it’s 11:30pm. We can’t really go anywhere else. We continued telling the chef that we need food, so he told us he’ll prepare something fast and send it out, and again so rudely and very much making us feel as we are being so unreasonable

Finally the food came(fried rice, some toasted sandwich, sushi and a curry) which we all inhaled because we were starving.

We still got charged for this meal - I am so disgusted at Doubletree and this experience! Stay Away from the rudest maitre d’ in this Japanese restaurant !!!! They don’t need your money or business Very very bad experience in a city where service is already so lacking, this dinner really was the icing on the cake of ‘...

I ordered 4 items and only liked one. Miso soup didn’t have anything in it - no tofu, no seaweed, no green onion. That’s not a soup that’s just a miso paste with water and some chili oil that didn’t actually make it any better. 6.6 euro. Oh and there was an egg white on the bottom - why?! Second item was tuna roll which was ok but super small and not perfectly wrapped - end pieces looked like end pieces, you know. About 10 euro. Third item was the only one I liked - scallop tartar with truffle. There were no truffle shaves, just a flavoured oil but at least it tasted good. I expected an actual truffle for almost 20 euro. The last item was really bad and ridiculously overpriced. It was a soft shell crab roll that had a lot of avocado (not mentioned in the menu) and some soft shell but zero actual crab meat. A total scam of another almost 20 euro. Service was okay - I was attended by several servers but none of them introduced themselves. I was also not asked if I liked the food which has taken away an opportunity for me to provide feedback and for the restaurant - to correct the situation. All in all a total tourist trap. I’m not a Michelin but I would not give it any stars. A total waste of my time and money. Oh and still water costed me another 4 euro. No ice or lime offered and water was room...

Food was exceptional, Service was horrible. We went there on a Tuesday night so the place was empty. While the waitress was taking our order, she just left without saying a word (very strange behavior) and the other one came and we had the restart the entire process. Also there were issues with the 20% hotel guests discount which was supposed to be on the entire bill and turned out to only work for the main dishes. After reminding the waitress of the discount she brought us back a bill that was higher, because on the original one she forgot to charge the Dessert. We’ve been to many high end restaurants and we have never seen such poor and incompetent service. Definitely wouldn’t recommend going there if you want to have a...

Wasn’t expecting a Michelin-star chef restaurant in a Double Tree when making my booking. The place surely exceeded our expectations and I have to say was one of the highlights on our trip to Madrid and staying at this hotel. The nigiri and temaki were amazing and tasty. The quality of the fish and all ingredients were excellent. It was well prepared and served. The miso soup was not what we had expected. It was not authentic to our preference but could be a fusion twist to making miso soup. Service was fair. It took awhile to get serviced after seating but that seems normal here in Spain. Sitting at the sushi counter bar I expected the chef to be more conversational to the guest but that didn’t happened.
