We chose this place based on positive Google reviews and being close to our hotel. We had a disappointing experience. Hopefully you can learn from our "mistakes." First mistake - we chose a small table with stools in the corner and never got a menu because the server assumed we only wanted drinks. Second mistake - we didn't have our drink order ready and so our server gave us half a second and then walked away while talking over his shoulder. Third mistake - my son didn't have his milkshake (really just a milk and fruit blended) flavor picked out so again the server pointed to the sign at the bar - asked if we could read it - and walked away. Fourth mistake - we were not assertive in asking for a menu and waited twenty minutes after finishing our first drink (and a tiny tapa and bowl of crunchies) before we flagged him down. Menus are in short supply these days in Spanish bars - usually you get pointed to a QR code. Our server had to go to the top shelf behind the bar to find a menu for us. Fifth mistake - we followed our server's suggestions and ended up with 2 large "raciones" rather than ordering tapas. The Anchovies (about 12) were supposed to have been marinated in Korean BBQ sauce but had no flavor other than fish. After waiting 10 minutes and asking about the sauce I was told that it was only a marinade. If it was only one or two fish it would have been a decent tapa but it had no flavor and there was a dish of 12 small fish for the two of us. The other was a cisena dish - about 12 thin slices of cured beef with shavings of cheese and some crusty bread. Again it would have been a decent tapa with 2-4 slices but neither dish came in smaller sizes and it was too much of single thing. The best thing we enjoyed were the actual tapas we ordered - croquettes (I think spinach). They were warm, creamy and delicious. Sixth mistake - we hadn't asked what the recommended dishes cost so this was our most expensive meal in Spain - 12 euros for one and 16 for the other. Not exorbitant but again not worth it for how little we enjoyed them. We should have stuck to our tapas plan but we were hungry and didn't want to lose our chance to order for...
Read moreThe BEST!!! We just arrived in Madrid, checked into our hotel. We wanted a close place to eat (taxi strike was going in). The receptionist at our hotel (Paseo del Arte) suggested we go to lacaña which was about a 3 min. walk. It was on a quiet street with a few tables and umbrellas outside. We arrived and was greeted by a very nice waiter who didn’t speak much English but was happy to get someone who did. We got one of the ‘daily chalkboard special which included drink, bread, soup or salad, main dish and dessert for 15€! I had wine, gazpacho of melon, risotto of margarita and a bread pudding with apples and a sauce. EVERYTHING was amazing!!! We’ve been travel for 20 days (Rome, Gaeta, Amalfi Coast and Barcelona). This was ‘THE BEST’!!! And we’ve eaten at some very nice and expensive restaurants. The presentation was what you would receive at a 4* restaurant. And taste was amazing!! Did I say that already!? Haha! I’d go back again and again! High...
