This was a well located room, short walk from Atocha station, close to some major museums and short walks from lots of interesting places. Yes it is a small bed and I’m not a fan of the one long pillow, but it is fine, the shower worked well although people with a larger frame may find it difficult to access. We had a private bathroom. The air conditioning worked well. It was a dark room, that was my only issue so we needed the lights on when we were in the room. Reception aren’t chatty which actually suits me. We were given the key to the room and never spoke again which suits me. The 3 keys open up all the doors and I had read some precious reviews where you had to buzz all the time, but I didn’t find that at all. I heard the buzzer a couple of times but not during the night, and I found it was quiet.||Keep your expectations at a reasonable level. No not the fanciest place in town but you’d be paying a lot more if it was. I think it is great...
Read moreWe were just passing through Madrid, arriving from by train from Seville in the afternoon and leaving for home the next morning from Madrid Barajas. Hostal Fernandez is an decent and cheap place for a night. We had room 113, a small room with two twin beds and a private bathroom. As other reviewers have noted, the shower stall is tiny.||It's a very good location, just across the street from Atocha station with plenty of restaurants and bars in the area. ATMs are located catty corner on the plaza shared by the hotel and the Reina Sofia museum. The Prado is 10 minutes walk away, Sol is about 25...
Read moreLocation is excellent - very close to Atocha train station. We stayed in a triple room - and the room was the largest we stayed in our entire trip in Spain. No one speaks English and so, if you do not know Spanish, you cannot get any answers. The triple room is in two sections but only one section had a small AC for a room of this size. Not easy to sleep. The bath was horrible - for a man of my size - 5'6" weighing less than 60 kg - it was difficult to have a shower as there is no space at all. Better to use the common shower which is spacious and more modern....
