Just had a great night here. We wanted something simple, easy and close to our hotel and this neighbourhood bar met all the goals. We shared a great salad (Ensalada Corzala) and a very well cooked steak (medium rare entrecot with fries}, four glasses of Rioja, a shared dessert and coffees for ~50 Euros. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we had a chat with some of the locals. After a week on the road it was great to be in a place with no fuss, good food and a warm atmosphere. The best, most authentic and down to earth Spanish tavern in one of the most elegant neighborhoods of Europe. A southern Spanish culinary experience; fresh and authentic Spanish tapas and dishes at surprisingly modest prices. The owners and staff make you feel pampered and at home . It opened in December of 2022 and so far it’s always full of people from the neighborhood and people who happen to walk by on their way to the royal gardens of Retiro ( Madrid’s Central Park). We ate the Juan de Mena location. They opened the downstairs for us. The Cazorla salad is a generous portion of lettuce, marinated tomatoes, red peppers, fish, and a hard boiled egg. Fried shrimp was lightly battered and the potato and ham croquettes were served piping hot. We clearly over ordered and the waiter offered to cancel an order for mussels that we gratefully accepted.
