I've eaten here three times now, and wouldn't come back if I hadn't thoroughly enjoyed it. I would like to make some observations and constructive criticisms.
Tonight I ordered the Thai style spaghetti. I actually ordered the prawn one, but received the chicken version. Probably a language mistake, but I had no problem with the chicken.
The Thai style spaghetti, to me, had only a very distant flavour of Thai. And was not spicy at all. Too creamy for Thai style too. But I enjoyed it. I was glad to have the vegetable side as I normally eat around 80% vegetables and 20% meat.
Quince is the best restaurant open currently (off season), that I have found, in Porto Cristo. The service is good too.
House wine: I've had a house red on each occasion and have found them different each time. First time the wine was excellent, second time good, third visit, not so good.
Table water: on my second visit I asked for water and got an open bottle of labelled water. The bottle looked as though it had been used before, so I thought it was just tap water. It tasted as though it was tap water. But I got charged for a bottle of water. I learnt a lesson from this and didn't ask for water the third visit.
Quince prices are quite high, but not unreasonable as the quality is good. I believe that including bread, olive oil and olives would be good for the restaurant.
Menu: great menu. Only suggestion would be to include vegan choices. Vegan is becoming more and more popular. I often eat vegan when out. Also, explaining the menu dishes more would be helpful.
Decor and at atmosphere: great.
Quantity of meat: on my second visit I had the fillet steak, which was fantastic. Although there was a lack of vegetables for me. The waiter actually said that there were green beans with the dish, but none were with it when it arrived Anyway, the quantity of fillet steak I got was enormous and I took one of the fillets with me home.
Accrudiments: I feel that there should be black pepper and rock salt mills. And offer olive oil, balsamic vinegar etc. On my first visit when I asked for black pepper, I was informed that the dish had all the flavours needed. Perhaps it was because I asked for black pepper and olive oil. The was enough olive oil in my...
Read moreI had the pleasure of dining at Quince in Porto Cristo harbor twice during July, and both experiences were nothing short of excellent. From the very first visit, it was clear that this restaurant takes both food and service seriously. The setting is vibrant and welcoming, the service attentive without being intrusive, and above all, the kitchen consistently delivers dishes that combine quality, creativity, and balance.
The ceviche, in particular, deserves special mention – it was the standout dish for me, perfectly fresh, bright, and full of depth. Another highlight was the Argentine pork tenderloin paired with plantains and black beans, which was executed beautifully, both in terms of flavor and presentation.
We were a group of six people dining together on both occasions, and I had the chance to taste every single dish that was ordered. What impressed me most was the consistency: across the board, every plate was well thought out, visually appealing, and delicious. As a trained chef myself, I truly appreciate the level of care and craftsmanship that goes into achieving this standard.
Quince is a place where passion for food shines through in every detail, and it has quickly become a favorite of mine in Porto Cristo. I look forward to returning at the beginning of September to enjoy more of what this excellent kitchen...
Read moreArrived for a quiet evening in the sunset with my fiance and it seems the waiters went out of their way to ruin my final day in Mallorca.
I was given an uneven table, chipped crockery, poorly presented starters, a mediocre luke-warm main and then sarcastically given a dessert menu to which I politely declined. All this begs the question to why not just refuse service initially as I did not have a reservation. I, on the other hand, was determined not to allow them to ruin our evening in the sunset and not upset my soon to be wife.
As my fiance prepared her exit, I followed suit and discretely asked for the manager at the indoor bar away from the eyes of other customers. I was met with a careless and predictable response to my offer of grace. "Let me guess, you want a refund?" said the waiter with blond dyed hair. I could only just sigh as my partner returned and gesture to the exit.
Needless to say, I left without a refund but strongly reprimanded the waiters as they behaved like ignorant teenagers. I can not truly put in to words how poor a service I was given. I am left with so many questions and mixed feelings to the owner(s) of Quince.
I hope something changes or nothing changes at all. There are plenty of other brilliant restaurants a...
