Paladar taberna — Restaurant in Marbella

Friday night dinner with friends, we booked over the telephone and were warmly welcomed to our table out on the terrace. Located in the centre of Marbella, easy walk from the beach promenade as well as the Old Town.

The Yum: This is very typical Spanish cuisine served with in modern style with the emphasis on the quality of the ingredients. It's casual dining so you can share all the dishes as is typical in Spain. We started with some big fat sardine fillets served on crispy anís tortas with a rich yummy tomato compote - we could have eaten lots of these but there was so much good stuff to follow, so we resisted. Iberian ham croquettes (properly made, tasty with ham, soft and almost liquid), artichokes with crispy ham, meatballs with foie, absolutely sublime cod in batter and cachopo show were highlights. The last dish is a long thin slice of breaded veal which is finished at the table with a dressing of egg and parsley. There was nothing that we didn't like and many other dishes to try next time.

The Fizz: There was a very long wine list with 5 or 6 served by the glass. We opted for an Antidoto Ribera del Duero and easily drank three bottles. It provided just the right amount of punch against the rich flavours of the food and was served in beautiful huge glasses.

The Rest: Service was professional, friendly and efficient (they gave us new plates half way), they spoke great English too, menu in English. The bathrooms are absolutely impeccable and very luxurious. The clue is the number of local Spanish people waiting for tables as the evening wore on. Pricing was fair and we paid 218eur for 5 diners with 3 bottles of excellent wine and several bottles of mineral water.

I made a reservation about 5 or 6 days earlier for 4 people. The next day I changed it to 6 people, they confirmed. On the same day we had two additional people and instead of just showing up at the time of the reservation, I asked them if this was ok, they confirmed. My boyfriend and I were the first ones to arrive, about 10 minutes early. The restaurant was full and our table was not ready. We asked for our table and their reaction was of surprise. They told us to hold on a second, after 5 minutes we asked the waiter to give us our table. They made some excuses and told us to have a beer at the bar. We waited for those another 5 minutes - a friend of ours came to see what was going on as we asked for the table for the third time (it was already 15:10). They didn’t try to help and told us it was better if we come back another day. The waiter kept asking if our friends arrived and how much time he had to try to get a table without really trying to, but the problem was the table was not ready for us in the first place and we didn’t know why. It kind of seemed like he wanted us to leave and only had excuses. No one apologised about forgetting our reservation. After him arguing with my friend for a good few minutes, we decided to leave and never ever return. The service was rude and the experience horrible. Such a shame as I was there for dinner when it first opened and really enjoyed the food. It seems like their success took the best of them and they don’t know how to manage that many customers. Ich habe wirklich lange gebraucht, um diese Bewertung zu schreiben! Wir waren gestern (Dienstag) und am Sonntag bei euch, zwei mal in Folge!

Negativ war der Service! Lieb, freundlich, genervt - sehr unterschiedlich! Wir haben mehrere Male die falschen Karten bekommen mit falschen Speisen und falschen Preisen, Aufmerksamkeit null 0️⃣ Am Sonntag waren sie ein wenig überfordert, haben knapp 15 Min gebraucht, um unsere Bestellung aufzunehmen, ein einziges Mal wurde gefragt, ob alles gut war und das wars, abservieren war ganz gut!

Am Dienstag (gestern) waren ungefähr 6 Kellner mit 6-7 besetzten Tischen, wir haben bestellt, die waren wie Roboter - das Essen hingestellt ohne was zu sagen, abservieren hat ewig gedauert obwohl der Tisch eng war und wir so viel bestellt haben, einfach hinstellen mitnehmen ohne was zusagen, war sehr ärgerlich, sie waren nur mit Tratschen und plaudern miteinander beschäftigt, sie haben sich kaum blicken lassen, obwohl wir noch was wollten. Man zahlt für den Service 2€ Pro Person und hier geht es mir nicht ums Geld, sondern, dass sie wirklich sehr sehr schlecht waren, es wäre so ein schöner Abend gewesen aber der Service war null motiviert!

Küche 11/10, Service -10/10 sorry Küche ihr habt wirklich sehr gut abgeliefert und das Restaurant hätte 5 Sterne verdient aber der Service hat das ganze verbockt, schade um das Gute Essen, und die top Qualität

Positiv war Das Essen war/ ist wirklich sehr sehr gut, viel Liebe, Mühe reingesteckt, man hat wirklich gemerkt, wie gut hier gekocht und angerichtet wird! Vorspeisen waren Top, die Kartoffeln, Paprika, Artischocke waren top, frittierter Fisch war tipptopp gemacht, Knoblauchmayo auch super top abgeschmeckt! Mein Steak Tatare mit dem Knochen also ich kanns nicht in Worte fassen aber es war sehr gut sodass ich das gleiche zweimal bestellt hab, sehr gut überlegt!
