We have been coming to la Familia for around 10 years. We used to love it and it was an essential part of our holiday. We are now staying in Benelmadena but got a taxi to la familia as a treat. How disappointing! The place has lost its soul and looks to be trying to cash in and become trendy like some other la cala establishments. We ordered the turbot for two. This is normally wheeled to the table and cut up for you and is huge and delicious. We received a portion for one which was miniscule with no potatoes or veg as normal and the price is now 28 instead of 25. They attempted to charge us for 2 x fries when we ordered 1. They had added on numerous drinks which we hadn't ordered or had been told were free due to our disappointment. We waited ages for the 2nd round of drinks - it wasnt busy. I would have cancelled but they started pouring them as I had ordered the uber so we stayed out of politeness. The kids food was chicken skewer and pasta bolognese which were both fine. The waiter who we recognised and has been there for years was very apologetic and he realised why we were dissapointed. He was excellent and this this review is no reflection on him. It's a shame. We won't be going back and neither will our parents who introduced us to this once lovely place all those years ago - they will be horrified by this I would imagine. Interestingly the chiringito next door was heaving with Spaniards. I should have...

This has been a regular restaurant of ours for years and we always got value for money. Now they are in a new establishment that is really top notch in terms of seating at the beach. But of course we come here not only for the prime location, but also for dinner and this is a real bummer. It starts with the service. There are really a lot of waiters walking around and yet the service does not run smoothly. We ordered ower main course but first some bread and aioli to go with the Cava. I had to ask for that several times for our starter, but nothing came. Finally, we got what we had asked for and literally 30 seconds later, our main course as well. That's nice!!! And this also severely disappointed. The boys had a hamburger. The meat was way overcooked and bone dry. I had the grilled entrecote and asked for medium rare. My steak was "blue". Also, my piece of meat was so full of sinew that I literally could not get it cut. When the waiter came to clean up I pointed out to him my piece of meat, that was still half on my plate and that I had asked for "medium rare" he said... Oeps, that's blue. But no excuses, no free coffee to compensate, nothing... I must say, the old "La famillia" was...

At first we had tried to book La Familia Beach Club for Sunday but no-one responded to us. We went along on Sunday to be told that it was fully booked. We were asked if we wanted to book so we booked for the next day. When we turned up, my husband had to remind the waiter, who was rudely asking if we had booked, that yes, we had booked with him directly, of course he didn't write our booking! We did get our loungers and parasol, we then tried to order a drink - was a bit of hit and miss as to whether you get the waiter's attention, at that time we thought we should book a table for eating, to be told again - NO, FULLY BOOKED! We were not informed when booking that we had to book a restaurant table too! I was told that the reason no-one responded to my online request to book was because they were probably already fully booked....don't know how you're supposed to get to find that out. Setting is beautiful, service and attitude to customers lacks a fair bit of training. Lots of nice other places along coastline more than happy to accommodate people with good service...

We visited La Familia after a walk along the boardwalk. The atmosphere was perfect; situated right in the beach, La Familia provides a great ocean view and fresh fish. We thoroughly enjoyed the fish and chips. The dish was huge - it’s plenty to share between 2 people. It was a fun experience to watch the fish being cooked on the grill outside the restaurant on the beach. My only frustration with La Familia was that service took a long time. We tried to get our check several times; we finally managed to flag someone down after 20 minutes trying.

During our Spain trip we tried many Paella. Unfortunately, the paella at La Familia did not meet our high expectations: - the rice was too hard. It would have had to be cooked longer - the seafood was not cooked within the paella. It was just added in the end. So, the flavor of the seafood was missing. Unfortunately, we did not complain. We should have given the team a chance to provide a better Paella. The price for the seafood paella is 18.50€ per person. The Paella in the picture was for three persons.
