Papa O — Restaurant in Mijas

The grilled sardines and gambas pil-pil were absolutely delicious – easily the highlight of the visit. The beer came ice-cold in a frozen glass, which was a really nice touch given the heat. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives ended. The chicken burger and Caesar salad were really disappointing – the breaded chicken in the salad tasted dry and stale. What really let the whole experience down, though, was the barman. I get that it’s peak season and staff are under pressure, but I was polite and still felt like I was a nuisance. I always try to speak a bit of the local language out of respect, but that seemed to irritate him even more. After waiting ages for a sangria, he came back and asked what I wanted again, like I was a new customer. I pointed to the empty glass and said “Sangria, por favor,” and he just muttered “It’s being made in the kitchen” before walking off. We’d rented four sunbeds and stayed all day, but that attitude really soured the experience,...

Me and my family arrived here excited because of the great location and atmosphere, looking forward to enjoying some fresh seafood. Sadly it wasn't great from the outset. We we're seated at an unset table with a stack of empty plates and a couple menus plonked in front of us. Rude, we thought, they must be busy. The service was disorganized and the waiters impatient. After all getting our drinks, I quickly received my meal (which was mediocre at best, chips very soggy) however the rest of my family were left waiting, and waiting. They received their food a solid 40 minutes after I did mine. Ridiculous. The long-awaited calamari was bland and very chewy, definitely not the fresh seaside meal we expected. The worst part was the baby calamari, which were in one word; inedible. The oil they were fried in was old and so overpowering you couldnt eat more than one before feeling ill. Wouldn't go here at all, better off getting a beer...

Unfortunately, the service was terrible. In a party of 9, 2 main courses were forgotten/didn't arrive. No apology. 1 main course arrived 15 min later, the other an hour later! Furthermore, when it arrived it wasn't cooked properly. The Salmon was raw below the surface. Again, no apology.

Nice setting, decent food (apart from the raw Salmon), but, terrible service. Very amateur restaurant.

Customer service training required.
