My dining experience at Las Llaves in La Cala de Mijas, Spain, at the end of January was nothing short of delightful. Established almost thirty years ago, this Michelin-recommended restaurant exudes an old-world charm. The service was both professional and friendly, contributing to the overall welcoming atmosphere. Las Llaves takes pride in offering sophisticated, high-quality cuisine, with a focus on expertly roasted meats in a wood-fired oven.

Opting for the shared entree tasting menu during lunch with three companions, we were treated to a culinary journey through eight seasonal dishes. From a tantalizing starter plate of chorizo to generous portions of assorted heirloom tomatoes, Russian salad, black pudding, cured ham, and grilled fresh goat cheese, each dish showcased the restaurant's commitment to quality. The 20-euro price per person for this indulgent experience made it an exceptional value. To cap off the meal, we enjoyed coffee along with a delectable cheesecake adorned with blueberry sauce and a brownie square. Las Llaves left us pleasantly full, creating a truly memorable dining experience, thanks in part to the excellent and friendly service. I look forward with excitement to returning on our next...

I hear great things about Las Llavas , so we kept it as a treat for the last night of our holidays , it was a terrible experience , it started off with the waiter being very offhand , and then I noticed the atmosphere between the staff , what an unhappy bunch of people , not a smile or a remark all evening , we then ordered the duck pate for €14.95 ( well it was our last night !) we expected something special . The pâté was the worst I have ever tasted. It was greasy and tasteless , served with shop bought toasted , the garnish was 1-2 teaspoons of some type of jelly . My husband ordered the pork, very hard and uneatable vegetables (mush) my beef stroganoff, was tiny scraps of tough beef but best of all is that it was served with a little lead bead, my husband could hear my crunch ( I have a dental appointment arranged to check the damage ) we showed 2 waiters and I was offered another dish, which I declined , I returned 3/4 of the dish and we were charged full price. We were offered a drink on the house , my husband requested a baileys , this arrived in a nameless bottle and the color and consistency was more like cement than a drink . All in all...

Myself and my father visited here tonight after visiting the website and staying close by. I had the croquettes for starter which were very good, but could have been warmer and really didn't need 8 of them, as they're quite filling. My father had Avocado with prawns which he said was good, and a good sized portion again. The complementary bread rolls were excellent and had a smoky flavour, a great size too! The complementary samples of Russian Salad were also welcome, and a little different. For my main, I had Veal Milanese which was nice, if a little overdone. The jacket potato and ratatouille were very good, and went well with this. My father had Lamb Chops, who said the flavour was great, but could have done with 6 not 4. We shared a crepe suzette which was a little disappointing as the website suggested this would come flaming, and didn't, but tasted ok. When asking for the cheque, we were offered a free liqueur and both the ambience and all of the staff were very welcoming and friendly. I would certainly...

*UPDATE FEB 2018* Came back another two times in february. One time for lunch and another time for dinner. Still absolutely delicious food and out-of-this world lovely service! I've been here a couple of times.. It is one absolutely fantastic spanish family owned restaurant. From the moment you step inside you feel very welcome. The huge whole Lamb Shoulder is absolutely delicious, the same with the lamb leg. The desserts are also really good and cooked with alot of alcohol and love from the Father Chef in the middle of the restaurant. I can't wait to get back to Las Llaves in February 2018, because this restaurant is absolutely a must visit if you come around La Cala de Mijas, less than 45 minutes south of Malaga.
