Canalla Tacos y Tragos — Restaurant in Mojácar

My dinner companion had been here before so I knew what to expect. The food is possibly the best I've had outside of Mexico. For two of us, we had the refried beans and tortilla chips, the guacamole and tortilla chips, and one taco each (you get two). I had the prawn/gambas taco. All the food was superb. The dips & chips were substantial - we couldn't finish. But really tasty - in particular, the refried beans were awesome. Both of us enjoyed our tacos. I had a very nice margarita. And one still water for my dinner mate.

The location is very central on Mojácar Playa. The restaurant is very trendy in terms of decor and music—basic and colourful. I had been cautioned not to expect the warmest service, and that was right. I can't say anyone was rude or unhelpful, but they certainly didn't seem eager to please. A bit curt, and you almost feel like an inconvenience. That didn't affect the enjoyment of my food, however. And the resident cat who took a nap on my lap made up for the lack of warmth from the staff!

Overall, I enjoyed it, but a bill of €50 (including tip) did feel a little steep based on the cost of ingredients locally. But the food was very nice — super fresh ingredients and a really interesting mix of flavours. I haven't tried other Mexican restaurants in the area yet for comparison. Appalling treatment! Telephone reservation was made with Gabriel for 20:30 hrs for 4 people... 2 of the starters were not as described, and had to be sent back... instead of serving 2 new starters, the original starters were 'cannibalised' to include cheese... shortly after receiving our main courses, about 21:30 hrs, Alana had been tasked to inform us of their 2-sittings policy (of which no mention was made at the time of booking) and we would have to vacate by 22:00 hrs... we were offered a transfer to a table furthest down (why could the 22:00 booking not be seated there in order not to disturb us?!)... to her credit, Alana did admit that we were not the first customers to have been let down in this way... obviously the management could not care less about repeat custom from residents; a quick profit from holidaymakers must be preferable to them!... we declined, made our feelings clear,did not order dessert and further drinks, and left without leaving a tip... had we known of this policy, we would have booked elsewhere... effectively our custom and money was obtained by a shameful deception! NEVER AGAIN! YOU HAVE...

Confused?? You will be if you order a prawn burrito. A riddle.... what do you get when you order a prawn (gambas) burrito? No rice or beans and charged extra for less 14.50(should have been 14.00 with rice and beans). The list for burritos and quesadillas say they ALL come with rice and beans, but not the prawn one as that's a special burrito. We didn't order a special burrito, we ordered a normal one(we pointed this out to who we believe is the owner/ manager). He told us thats quesadillas list, however the vegetable one underneath the prawn it is a burrito, as is the sicronizada above it. Stupid us huh, that's how we were made to feel, but have a look at the photos of the menu and make your own mind up. Have to say staff were lovely but owner/manager could do with some customer service skills. Instead of shouting down customers at their table it would perhaps be helpful to recognise the menu is confusing and offer the rice and beans?
