I rarely write reviews, but my visit to Spud Murphy’s left me feeling compelled to share my experience. We arrived at the restaurant around 2 PM when the restaurant just opened, excited to order our usual. However, our enthusiasm quickly turned to disappointment due to the unprofessional attitude of the staff. Upon entering, we were met with a rather cold reception from a staff member. I was wearing a casual outfit—shorts and a top—perfectly appropriate for the warm day in late august. Instead of welcoming us, she told us that we couldn't be seated because of my attire. I understand some places have dress codes, but it was 2 PM on a sunny day, and there wasn’t a single sign indicating a strict policy on clothing or has stopped me before. Eventually we were allowed sit inside as they were only open but put into a corner. My cousin is vegan and was told previously the chips were vegan to then be told they were not vegan when she has asked every time before.
What truly astounded me was then today that when we asked for a table for two people inside and she pulled out her phone and pointed to a weather app, claiming that rain was on the way and suggested we “go home.” This felt unnecessarily rude and dismissive; we were simply looking to enjoy a drink. The way she handled the situation was unprofessional, lacking any sense of hospitality.
To say the attitude of the staff and owner was off-putting would be an understatement. A restaurant’s customer service is just as important as its food, and in this case, it was a complete failure. I've never been treated so dismissively before in a dining establishment. It would put me off returning anytime soon, nor would I recommend it to anyone looking for a pleasant experience. Attitude matters, and this place needs to seriously reevaluate how they treat...
Read moreEverything is always exceptional. It's not just a fish and chip restaurant. Because if it was then the rest of the fish and chip restaurants have a lot of catching up to do.
The menu is extensive with lots of choice. And we are both veggies and there is always something we can have. Including one of the best veggie burgers on any menu we have ever tried.
The staff and service are exactly what customer service should be. Everything runs like a finely oiled machine. The food itself is always amazing. I have lost count of the amount of times I've eaten here now. And by now you would have thought there would be one bad experience. )And if you have read my other reviews of other restaurants you will know I'm honest and fair when it comes to my criticism and feedback.) But I have never had a bad experience here. There is just so much attention to detail especially with things like food allergies and dietary requirements. They even have an entire menu for people who are gluten free.
If you only make one stop on your holidays and you're craving fish and chips and all the lovely food that a fish and chip restaurant offers , then there is only one place to go. The staff themselves make you feel familiar and comfortable. And they really add to the experience too.
The other fish and chip restaurants in the area have a lot...
Read moreIncredibly rude dark haired waitress. Came up to the restaurant today around 2pm ish looking for a table for 10. It was busy but not busy enough that the waitress couldn’t see us waiting and ignored us. I finally asked if she had anything for 10 and was rudely told no. About 5 mins later a table of 6 left and next to it was another empty table of 4. I asked a different waitress if we could sit at the table of 6 to which she told us yes, I was just waiting for the rest of my family to arrive when the dark haired waitress approached me again and rudely told me “I’ve told you I haven’t got a table for 10” I replied “there is a 6 there can we not sit on that please and pull the 4 over?” To which she replied “I’ve already told you, no” As we walked away I said to the waitress “just to let you know there is no need to talk so rudely to clients” to which she replied “I wasn’t being rude I don’t have the space.” (Again very short) My partner asked if we could sit separately so 6 of us on the bigger table and 4 sit separately on the other empty table and again we was told “I’ve already said no”. There was no need for the rudeness. Went downstairs to a different restaurant and was treated completely differently, how customers should...
