El bucanero — Restaurant in Oviedo

We just arrived in Oviedo about three hours ago. Took a short nap at the hotel and then just wondered around. I’ve seen this restaurant on Google, but we weren’t sure where we want to eat. We just happen to see this and decided to go in. We love Mexican food. Super cute little place. they have a QR code for you to be able to look at their menu. We don’t speak a lot of Spanish so we use their QR code and translated it. Google translate. We had the pork belly that came with a pea sauce and I have to say it’s the best pork belly I ever had in my entire lifetime. we also had the vegan nachos. And you would not be able to tell that it was vegan at all. I had a glass of cava and my wife had a glass of red wine and our total bill was €31. They had a great music selection of old school American songs like Aerosmith, Elton John, etc.. i’m not certain if the gentleman that was waiting on us was the owner, but when we attempted to speak our very poor Spanish to him, he was very nice. Desde que entras, el ambiente ya promete: buena música, un camarero preocupado porque estés a gusto y una carta completamente sin gluten que no tiene nada que envidiarle a una "con".

La comida es inmejorable: Todo el mundo sabe echar unas patatas a freír, pero en pocos sitios saben freírlas verdaderamente bien y al punto: crujientes, sabrosas e imposibles de dejar en el plato. Yo pedí la hamburguesa de costillas con pan de brioche sin gluten y fue una maravilla (llena muchísimo, eso sí, recomiendo ir con alguien con mucho saque que os ayude a terminar los platos). El pan estaba increíblemente bueno, suave pero firme, no se desmigaba nada (quienes comemos sin gluten sabemos lo raro que es eso). Mi acompañante no suele comer sin gluten y no notó la falta de este, su hamburguesa también le pareció muy buena.

De postre, un coulant de avellanas recién hecho que fue el broche perfecto: caliente, cremoso y delicioso. Ya lo estoy echando de menos. Todos los platos se notaban 100% caseros y elaborados con mimo.

Y un detalle que me sorprendió gratamente: en los baños de chicas hay uno con lavabo individual señalizado en la puerta, pensado para quienes usan copa menstrual y necesitan lavarla con intimidad. Es la primera vez que veo algo así en un restaurante, y me parece un gesto de cuidado y sensibilidad hacia las clientas.

Sin duda, volveremos. Por la comida, por el trato y por esos pequeños...

Some of the best food in Oviedo - a must visit. A very well crafted menu with vegan options. Everything is made fresh with top quality ingredients by a conscientious staff who know exactly what flavours compliment each other, (The apple ketchup is a marvel). The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. A very relaxed atmosphere outside as well as inside. Highly recommended. And they dealt with my bad Spanish and heavy Irish accent...
