Bar Espanya — Restaurant in Palma

We went to both Bar Espanya. The original one is fantastic. Excellent service, staff and food. We loved it so much we went 3 times. We decided to give the other one, in Placa Raimundo Clar a try and booked in advance. Food was excellent again. Unfortunately, the service was very poor. On arrival, we were given a table near the toilet. Two other tables for 4 were free. They remained so for the time we were there and, had I known, I would have asked to move. At least then I wouldn’t have had to see a man peeing because he didn’t close the toilet door. The waitress was quite grumpy and non-communicative. We only had one drink in our time there because we were never offered another. The staff seemed stressed and they were far from speedy. As we left, we were asked by the male member of staff (who had given us the table) if we had enjoyed it. I said it was a shame we were given the table by the toilet and that there were 2 other free tables for 4 which were not taken during our time there. He said one was for 8 people (not true - there was a large table but 2 people sat at it and still a free table for 4). He was defensive and rude and turned and walked away from me. The cabbie who picked us up from the airport AND our food tour guide both recommended this place so we knew it was probably going to be worth a visit, and we're so glad we stopped by!

We couldn't get a reservation so just turned up and hoped, and they managed to squeeze us in so long as we were gone before the next booking - two hours away. Being British, we knew this was absolutely doable so sat down.

We had a selection of the classic tapas and everything was just good. Not one bad plate, and it was all great value. It was a bustling restaurant with lots of staff coming and going so a really good atmosphere.

Well worth a visit if you can get a table, definitely one of the better tapas bars...

We wanted to spontaneously, within 4 hours, go out for tapas with a large group (22 people). For such a large group, it's not possible to make an online reservation through the portal, which seems to be the standard in Palma. However, we were able to send an email and received a prompt response, even outside of regular hours, that we were welcome to come. The food and service were simply phenomenal. Since we wanted to try a bit of everything, the staff quickly put together a mixed menu for 22 people.
