Hotel Basilica — Hotel in Palma

Our second home while staying in Palma! We have stayed at Hotel Basilica on four separate occasions now - Palma is our favourite place, made even more special by this hotel and all of the staff. Every visit is truly special with the warmest and kindest welcome. This hotel feels like a home from home for us, and that’s why we continue to go back. Miguel, Blanca, Lucie and Franco are exceptional. We are always so excited to see them all when we go back, their hospitality is second to none. The staff are all super friendly and nothing is ever too much trouble, you are genuinely so well looked after. Welcome glass of fizz on arrival is a lovely touch, and Hotel Basilica have been kind enough to leave us gifts waiting in our room for each time we have returned. The team deliver a truly luxurious and unique quest experience which is faultless from start to finish. Every welcome, whether your first arrival or returning to the hotel throughout the day, is warm and friendly. Thank you for always being so hospitable and for taking good care of us (including when my partner was recently sick and required a doctor at the hotel). The hotel itself is immaculate. The reception, bar area and terrace are all spotless. The smell when you first walk in the hotel is amazing, and the interior is simply beautiful. All of the rooms are super clean and again, decorated beautifully. The daily housekeeping was faultless. There is a coffee machine in the rooms and a kettle can be provided with all the essentials if you prefer tea, although the staff are always on hand - even if you fancy a late night tea to get settled before bed. There is a rooftop terrace and pool with great views overlooking the Old Town and pool towels are provided in your room. The location is perfect, right in the heart of the Old Town next to the Basilica church. Everywhere is within walking distance and equally, it is only a 20 minute walk to the bus station if you are exploring the likes of Valldemossa, Deia and Soller and don’t mind jumping on the bus. The hotel are always on hand to arrange any taxi service too, which typically arrive within 5-10 minutes which is just fantastic. We always have an early start and go out for our breakfast but it has become a ritual that we always have breakfast with Miguel at the hotel on our last morning before flying home. We are not ones for hotel breakfasts, but we really enjoy the breakfast at Hotel Basilica. It is delicious! There is so much choice and the chef is always on hand for any orders such as omelettes, pancakes etc. Hotel Basilica is one of a kind. We always have such an amazing experience and really appreciate all of the staff. It is a 5* experience every single time. You are spoilt at this hotel. Service: From the moment we arrived to the last minute, our stay was pure excellence. We were greeted with open doors and smiles. It became evident quickly that all the staff were kind, friendly, inviting, and always acknowledged and greeted us. Staff introduced themselves and provided top notch service. All staff were professional and always presented lively and had a smile. It always helps brighten the mood when speaking to staff as they were helpful in recommending points of interest.

Room: Beautiful luxury room next to the cathedral. Always very clean and had all the amenities we needed. We never had to ask for anything that we didn’t already have. Although not a ‘large’ room, one has to acknowledge the location / history of the building reflects the size. Water, pop, beers, and cava were in the mini fridge - all free the first time around. An excellence bottle of cava on ice awaited us in our room as we arrived.

Hotel: Location is in old historic centre. Location is key as it’s meters away from plaza mayor and the main shopping / restaurant district in old Palma. If you want to stay in historic old Palma, look no further, this is the place for you. Buffet breakfast was top quality Spanish food with many cheese, cured meats and egg options. The coffee was among the best I’ve tasted. I always got double espresso with a shot of warm milk. Claudia took care of managing breakfast and excelled greatly! Juice / fruit options were delicious. You can enjoy breakfast indoor or outdoor in a beautiful private terrace. Privacy and intimacy are perfect words to describe this small boutique hotel.

Rooftop pool: this area deserves its own section as in my opinion, it’s the selling feature of this hotel. We spent a lot of time atop the hotel enjoying the small plunge pool and the magical sights of several cathedrals and historic views of the bay of Palma. You can hear a pin drop while on the rooftop. No noise from the city / neighbourhood makes it to the top. You can order food / drinks by texting them via what’s app which is a super unique and private way of getting some snacks and refreshments. Everyone is respectful and carries conversations in a quiet manner so as not to disturb others. This is the best part of the hotel. You can enjoy a nice siesta / nap or sunset view. Staff come up as needed and refill the honour system beverage fridge and take away used cups etc.

Loved this place! It’s on a quiet and less traveled path in the old city. It is perfectly located by the cathedral and it’s near all the places you’d like to go—plenty of plazas full of life, great restaurants, and quaint shops.

The hotel itself honors the traditional aesthetics of the area—old and historic—and surprises you inside with all the comforts and things we come to appreciate with modern living and accentuate the vintage with contemporary touches.

The staff was superb. From check-in to check-out, they were supremely kind, attentive, and very welcoming. Small touches like taking your luggage and offering a refreshment were very appreciated (since we’ve been touring Spain 🇪🇸, and Mallorca was our third stop).

Miguel was a wonderful host and went above and beyond with his hospitality. Borjas was another stand-out member of the crew and made us feel so comfortable and at ease with his attentiveness and charisma. Additionally, the front desk had a wonderful blonde, blue-eyed receptionist that was very informative and made our stay that more special—making great recommendations from the little things like a nail salon to a beautiful spot on the marina for dinner with a killer seafood paella (and everything in between).

During breakfast, the crew was equally impressive, warm and welcoming. They were very professional and with a great sense of humor, explaining everything with care and grace—no sense of feeling rushed or quickly dispatched. Rather, stay and lounge, enjoy the continental breakfast (which is quite robust), or order something special off the menu like a crepe or an a-la-carte tortilla (omelette). A Serbian young lady was a welcome sight every time with an older gentleman—both of them manning the floor and always making sure we had everything we needed.

Overall, I would come back without a doubt. The location, hotel amenities and service were top-notch. This is what hospitality should be about, a place where you can feel right at home with every touchpoint—all the staff members were truly and honestly invested in making sure we had a wonderful stay (almost like a family member would do).
