Moltabarra — Restaurant in Palma

(Palma de Mallorca, mid January 2024). This is a mainly bear bar favored by younger local crowd to get together for drinks and pintxos before going out for dinner. It opens at 7 pm and fills in within minutes even though it is a pretty large space. Once it's full, it is incredibly loud. 80 types of bear, bar tenders work very hard, but ordering at the bar is very confusing as there is no line, just a huge crrowd around the bar, so try to get eye contact with a bartender who will then take your order. Pintxos are displayed in three groups ( with meat, with seafood/fish, and vegetarian). 80 types of bear, mainly bottled, only 4 on draft. You order at the bar, pay and take your drinks&food to the table ( if you came at 7 pm and was lucky to grab a table). There is also a dinner menu ( only in Spanish). Pintxos were ok and very cheap - just over Euro2 a piece ( we tried from all three groups) . Local draft bear and a bottled cidra were good. We made a mistake to stay for dinner and ordered Nachos with cheese and pork and Tzatziki With Friends from the main menu. It was a disaster. Nachos were absolutely terrible. I think we got the bottom of the bag as all chips were small broken bits, it was difficult to eat, I had to use a fork(!!!). The melted cheese is the greasy tasteless American orange cheddar, minced pork was almost unnoticeable. And the heartburn afterwards...... Tzatziki &Friends was a platter with pita bread pieces and three small dishes with yogurt (which is apparently tzatziki), veeery salty humus, and pretty good tapenade (chopped black olives). Cheap place with a loud atmosphere, perfect if you want to grab drinks and not fussy about the food.

If you go here to eat… I can’t recommend it. They serve dishes luke warm or semi cold (including meats like chicken) and it feels unsanitary.

I tried the Mexican burger for €13 and it could have been good. Unfortunately it was just a wet soggy mess, the paddy was hard and round. Compared to what a great burger one can get for the same price, they have a long way to go.

The rest of the food was cheap and unfortunately didn’t taste well. With moderate change, this place would turn out great food.

I went here because of the extremely high average score on gmaps, and it’s possible the bar part is heavily weighted on that score. Either way, that’s my take on the place, unfortunately I won’t ever be back for food here, but I might...

The atmosphere of this place is great, but that's where the good experience ends. My order took 25 minutes to arrive, by which point my cola was flat and watery from melted ice. The chicken wings were warm but completely flavorless, and not cooked as advertised. The waiter never confirmed the type I wanted, and the BBQ sauce came so late that I ended up leaving without finishing my meal. To top it all off, the bathroom had no paper towels or hand dryer.
