From the beginning, our waiter's tone was not just rude but openly hostile. In his attempt to make us hurry with our order, he uttered explanations which were beyond imprecise. They were full of lies — to the point of identifying himself as the restaurant owner. Certainly my worst experience in a restaurant. It felt surrealistic.
Here is a summary of our experience:
After having been sitting for 15 minutes, our waiter appears for the first time to take our drinks order.
As he shows up, he lets us know, with a rather impolite tone, that we should hurry up. We have some questions about the wine list, which he dispatches with monosyllabics. We also have some questions about the menu, to which he simply replies "drinks first". We explain that we do not want to order food yet, but rather understand some of the dishes. He interrupts us saying that "the local law forbids a waiter to discuss food with the client until the drinks have been served". I come from Spain myself and I had never heard of such a thing before. Even in the case where such a law existed, there are better ways of communicating the message.
A couple of minutes later, when our drinks have still not arrived, he comes to take our food order. We still haven't made up our minds so he decides to speed up the process by standing in front of our table with a half sarcastic, half scornful look. His attitude lacking the effect he expected, he passes on to words:
-"Please hurry up with your order. We close at midnight".
-"Sir, it is only 10pm. We think we have enough time to finish dinner before midnight." In a desperate attempt to save our dinner we ask "Could we please get a different waiter?"
-"Be careful, you are talking to the owner" (the owner of the restaurant serving tables?! Later on we found out that he was not the owner but only his brother).
So he remains our waiter and insists that we have to order now. He lies again, but this time sonblatantly that the whole situation becomes absurd: "We have to close at midnight because there is a new state of alarm being declared tomorrow (16 August 2020) and all clients should be gone by then".
To this we dont know what to say. Me and my friends look at each other and decide to leave. I hadn't even touched...
Read moreThis place came recommended, but clearly things have changed dramatically. I should have read the recent reviews before going. Visiting Celler la Parra was a truly horrible experience - horrible enough that my girlfriend and I felt it our duty to give public feedback. The waiters were rude, condescending and even though my girlfriend is a native Spanish speaker and had done most of the speaking, the waiter took the time and effort to tell her that I needed to learn Spanish (Being from the Netherlands, I speak English and Dutch but my Spanish is very poor). It was god-awful. It was shocking how someone could treat a customer this way.
The food may have been great - I have no idea. We left. But I can say I have spent 18 days in and around Port de Pollença so far, and have had great food at many places. Try “Terrae” around the corner. Not only was the food good, but the entire staff was welcoming and kind - we went back twice. And two restaurants and bars on the same street as Terrae were also great. On the promenade, try “Restaurante los Faroles” - again, the people working these we’re fantastic, food was equally amazing and a great view with a sea breeze. Also we went to “Tolos Bar & Restaurant” - once for lunch and one for dinner. The food and the service were top notch.
For me to take the time to write this review, it means a lot. And all I can say is to do yourself a favor, and avoid...
Read moreI took my family for a last night special meal and wished I had gone to McDonald’s instead. It started when we asked twice for little plates to eat bread with oil, still waiting for them even though they were only 10 feet away. I had a tough prawn cocktail, at first, then suckling pig with chips and frozen veg, not still frozen but out of a bag nonetheless. There was no vegetarian option, fish was not priced and if you wanted the mussels you either had to have them for breakfast or know to order in advance. We did not complain or ask for anything unusual but the staff were not interested in whether we liked the food or not and it was served in a very surly manner. To some up, very average food, totally unhelpful and arrogant staff. My advice is that there are some excellent restaurants in Puerto Pollensa where you will be treated with respect, this is not...
