This place was our absolute favorite food in San Sebastian, Donostia. It was packed with older locals and the food tasted right out of someone's grandmothers kitchen, real authentic. Beware they will not speak English and they are extremely busy so if you cant order quickly when its your turn you will be skipped (this happened to me when i politely asked in spanish if they spoke english) but the food looked too good to just quit and walk away. And the man at the counter accepted my persistence and I spoke spanish words and pointed, Jamon, queso, pollo lol It was amazing! Drool worthy! On thursdays they participate in Pinxtos Portee and for 2 euro you can enjoy a pinxto and a drink (soda, water, beer, wine) and there is no limit so you can feast and keep walking to try all of the restaurants. If you go early for lunch they have rotisserie chickens and cornish hens in addition to pinxtos and a menu for meals. We made a few visits while visiting San Sebastian, and out of all of the restaurants ranging big to small, irish pubs, tourist traps etc this place was it for us! Be sure to try the ham & cheese stuffed green pepper, and the beef bol and chorizo in bread sandwich and you can peep more pics on Instagram...
Read moreWe arrived at 3.25 & asked if we could have menu del dia, the chef said yes, we sat down and after 10 minutes of trying to catch the several waitresses eyes, they said no. We nearly left but we were hungry after riding motorbikes to San Sebastian, for a 2 night stay. So not knowing the restaurant ordered basic fare, & it cost €38 including a few drinks. So not sure if I'd recommend this place, I'm sure its fine if you are local. We couldn't order on the terrace & there a 10% extra cost to eat there, so I had to go into the bar to order drinks and food..... I don't think we will go back, all the family of the waitresses had a great time, as they spent all their time with them. Maybe it was a special day for them, we work for clients in our own business & look after them first, where ever they...
Read moreThis is the kind of place that I really enjoy writing a review for. A family run restaurant for over 50 years, hidden away in an unfashionable street where except for the people staying in the hostal next door few tourists ever go. Indeed I have lived in this city for over 30 years and my visit last night was my first. And what an eye opener, it was like stepping back in time. There were none of the fancy modern dishes which plague this city. There was simply good old fashioned food served in abundance for a good old...
