I recently had the opportunity to dine at a restaurant in San Sebastián that, unfortunately, fell well below the city's usual high standards. Despite a polite and attentive waiter, the overall experience left much to be desired—to put it mildly.

One thing that struck me immediately upon entering the restaurant was how conspicuously empty it was on a Friday night. While other establishments in the area were bustling with diners, this place seemed to be struggling to attract customers. I tried not to let this influence my opinion, however, and settled in for what I hoped would be a pleasant meal.

The menu was packed with options, which isn't necessarily a bad thing if the dishes are executed well. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case here. I started with a dish that was described as a "patatas bravas," but it was clear that the ingredients were anything but fresh. The flavors were dull and lacked the vibrancy that I've come to expect from San Sebastián cuisine. More like the frozen section of Mercadona.

For my main course, I opted for a chicken dish that sounded promising. However, when it arrived, it was overcooked and dry, and the accompanying sauce was cloyingly sweet. I couldn't finish it.

Overall, I was disappointed by the experience at this restaurant. While the waiter was polite and attentive, the lackluster food and empty dining room left me wondering if this place will be around for much longer. San Sebastián is a city with a rich culinary tradition, and this restaurant simply didn't measure up. I would recommend looking elsewhere for a truly...

I honestly can’t rate the food because we got up and left. First off, we asked to be seated at two tables or 4 for our party of 8. They wanted to stuff us in a corner and add the smallest little table at the end of a booth to try and fit us. It was very uncomfortable. Next came the ordering. We had a vegetarian in our group and two kids. On a salad there was tuna on the menu. We asked if we could have a salad without the tuna and they said no. We then say a vegetarian sandwich but there was mayonnaise on there, so we asked for no mayonnaise and they said no. So we finally ended for our veggie person on a veggie burger. Well now it came to the kids. They had pizzas which the kids love but there was not a plain cheese option. We asked if they could make a plain cheese and they said no that we cannot make any changes to any of the menu items. This is honestly just weird to me as this place is a tourist spot in the middle of one the busiest areas (la concha) that absolutely no exceptions can be made. How would they cater to someone with allergies who might not be able to one of the ingredients on a menu item that could be easily taken out? So after that we just paid for our...

We stopped impulsively on our way to the beach without checking first reviews. So i was a bit concerned after reading negative reviews. We stayed on the terrasse for a drink and then we ordered some food: fries and nachos. Nachos were actually quite good with guacamole prepared from scratch using fresh avocados and with bolognaise sauce. Prices were fair as well. Service was good. Waiter spoke Spanish, english and french. Delivery was super fast, done by a ‘delivery’ waiter only few minutes after order was entered on their portable devices. All in all a lot better than anticipated.

We wanted simple food to fill us up. Goal achieved. The staff dealt really well and patiently with our limited Spanish. The price is more than I would normally want to pay, but the staff are working on a May Day and I hope they get extra remuneration. We got 2 roast chicken, chips and salad, and a beer for 37 euros. It seems to be a national culture for restaurant toilets' to be very basic, and these were no exception, but they were functioning, which is better than some.
