Restaurante Oriental II — Restaurant in San Sebastián

Two stars for the nice ambience and decorations, as well as the beef dish we ordered. However, the food was bad. We've been to Asia and been eating Asian food forever, but the quality of food we ordered wasn't good. Maybe other dishes are better. We ordered chicken corn soup, Thai noodles (made with coconut milk), spring roll, and beef with onions. The latter two where the better with an order of white rice. Other orders weren't rich in flavor. We told the waitress that we didn't like the Thai noodles, so she took it away. Despite that, she insisted that we pay for it! She also said that we she could get us something else which we would have to pay for it, as well (aka not a replacement). We were surprised! After 5 years in Galicia we have been yearning for Asian food. We have just moved to Irún and so are working through the options available on both sides of the border. The menu del día here is cheap and filling, especially for ritzy San Sebastián. The entrees were quite good but both main courses were very bland tasting mainly of cornflour and msg. They didn't come with rice so we had to offer it separately meaning the price don't end up as economical as it would appear at first glance. Fooled again! But it isn't the restaurant's fault. We were looking for a Thai place and somehow this place was recommended to us. On the outside the restaurant looked very promising and the staff were really friendly, so we decided to try it out. The menu contained Vietnamese and Thai dishes, but also Chinese dishes. Warning bells but too late to cancel. We ordered mostly Thai dishes but really you could not tell the difference, as everything was soaked in the same Chinese sweet sour glittering sauce.
