La Issla — Restaurant in San Sebastián

It was my first visit to this restaurant. I ordered the lunch menu with chicken, peanut sauce, and “rice” (which turned out to be quinoa, without any prior notice). A cookie and coffee were also included. The price was very fair (10€), the food tasted good, and the service was friendly.

Unfortunately, I became really sick afterwards. I specifically asked twice if my choices were gluten free, and I was assured they were. As someone with celiac disease, this is extremely serious. While I’m not allergic, which could have sent me to the hospital, the reaction I had was still very unpleasant.

It’s unacceptable to advertise or promise gluten free options if they are not truly safe. Restaurants must take these...

The place was quite nice and the waitress was really really nice! But unfortunately the food was quite boring. We ordered a pear/goat cheese toast and an avocado toast as well as the yoghurt. As drinks we had coffee and one banana-mango smoothie.

The smoothie tasted like nothing, more like frozen fruits. I also waited a bit to drink it, because I tasted the frozen fruits, but it was then bitter at the end.

This place is very nice, good food, good vibes and fair prices! We loved the açai bowls and fresh juices. We're not sure they know how to make tea tho, they used way to much leafs and it was bitter when we got it. The staff is very friendly and resolves issues quickly, but they are sooooo slow even when the store isn't too busy. We felt like they preferred to chatter and not pay attention to the customers so you really need to approach them (e.g. you want to pay).
