Staff here are very very friendly. Extremely helpful and serve you with a smile. The place is very unique with people writing and signing the walls. It almost makes the place feel a little bit like the customers as much as the owners. Sadly that is were the praise ends. The food or the Chinese style food is not very good. You don't know how disappointing it is to say this. I cannot comment on the Japanese food, as we didn't try beside the Gyozas. However the Chinese food has been westernised to a tourist level. And I want to be fair as I realise, that my opinion is probably very skewed. I was born in Kong Hong and raised with Canton Chinese food so this might be unfair and harsh. The owners are mainland Chinese, so I know they can cook. But the food they serve, I can guarantee none of them would eat themselves. It would be a fast food equivalent... Hubby was looking for a good place to eat Chinese food. And after reading the reviews I begged Wifey to try this place. Sadly we both left disappointed and still on the hunt for some decent Chinese food on the strip. Looking at the menu, shows very little choice, just much the same with different sauces or meats. The menu looks like my GCSE exam paper, padded out and reeks of not knowing what the hell I am doing. It's not black bean, with Chicken, beef, prawn or crispy duck. No it's chicken Black bean ... Then in the prawns section, prawns Black bean ... then in the beef section, Beef Black Bean... then crispy duck section. Hubby tried the 1/3 duck pancakes and the teriyaki chicken. While wifey tried the Gyoza and the Duck in Sweet and Sour sauce. In my life I have eaten Gyozas in Japan and Peking Duck Pancakes in China. I can honestly say this is nothing like them. The Peking Duck pancakes were not good. More like soggy western pancakes, rather than dry rice floury ones. The greens, the cucumber and spring onions were dry as hell. And the Peking or Hoisin sauce just wasn't... The Gyoza, was a bastardization of Chinese soggy dumplings in some kind of 5 spice sauce. Wear traditionally they would have been served with a soya and garlic dipping sauce and crispy fried. Wifey's mains was a dry duck in some sort of pink sauce, that looks more like a cocktail you would drink, rather than anything remotely like sweet and sour. And Hubby's teriyaki chicken was the only ok, but the best dish out of the lot, but wifey didn't rate it as much. The sides we ordered with the main, the Chow Mein homemade noodles were good. Sadly I think a lot is lost in translation, as wifey pointed out. As Chow Mein is the sauce, whereas what I think they meant to say was "fried egg noodles" which is more like what we got. This was the best dish served, and yet wasn't typically fried egg noodles either. The majority of the plates were average or below if I am being honest. Which is such a same as the reviews and ratings are quite high for this place. So I was hoping for good food. This leads me to wonder how this place got great reviews. Either we came on a bad night, I am being overly critical, or western people have had some really terrible perceptions of what real Chinese food is. I happen to think it's probably a combination of all three. But I keep coming back to the Gyoza, as it's something I haven't grown up on as a comparison. But still I have never seen it prepared the way it was served. It was more like a dumping version of Cheung fun, a rice roll drowned in sauce. Rather than the crispy fried dumplings that they should be. Wifey saw the sushi being served on another table. But didn't rate it, comparing it to bought in from tesco. However we as I said we didn't try it ourselves so can't really comment on how good it really is. What a shame. These people are so friendly and nice. And I hate tearing the food down, but if I am honest this is what I think. I also give credit because they are serving food the average western tourist wants to eat. But for Hubby and Wifey, and the guys and gals working in Go Chow Mein, having seen real Chinese and Eastern cuisine... I am...
Read moreIt is good when you do know a Restaurant before you will visit it again...
Our last visit here has been in 2019.
That time we have been here several times.
That time we have been always very satisfied.
It was connected with the meals the Cook and with the Server.
Now all has changed.
New staff with average meals and poor Service.
A Wine list or a list of drinks was not available.
You cannot compare and control prices.
We ordered WAKAME (sea weed) and got a very small portion.
Also I ordered a "crispy" duck in Curry. I have asked for medium spicy.
The presented duck was not crispy at all.
The Curry sauce was bland and tasteless.
I have informed the waiter about it and he answered that Curry is never spicy at all...
I have been in hundreds of Asian Restaurants.
But everywhere it was spicy.
I travel monthly worldwide.
Refilling the wine was self service.
The wine " YAIZA " BLANCO SECO in the blue bottle was charged with 21,50 € instead of offered 20,50 €.
This is the right Restaurant for paying less and having a bottle of beer.
The ambiance is very simple. Plenty of guests are happy that they can leave a Tag or their names on the wall or at the building.
After these new experiences we will not return.
And finally ( see the picture of the bill) the wine-as expected- was charged with 21,50 € instead of the offered 20,50 €.... VISA-CARD was accepted. WIFI was available.
My subjective individual rating:
SERVICE: 1-2 STARS
AMBIANCE: 2 STARS
PRICES ( EXCEPT DRINKS/WINES): 4 STARS
QUALITY AND PREPARATION OF MEALS: 2-3 STARS
PRESENTATION OF MEALS: 2-3...
Read moreWhat this place does do is absolutely amazing food. The salt & chilli chicken is by far the best I have ever tasted with the very light tempuraesque batter being a game changer. The special rice or Yeung Chow as it's normally called in the UK was also awesome & plentiful. I had the chicken szechuan which had a real good kick & was also possibly the best I've tasted. All the food is cooked in pain sight as they have an open kitchen so you can see your dishes being prepared quickly & freshly & in a flurry of waving hands & stainless steel. The waiter is absolutely mental by the way & he seems to do everything at 100 miles an hour but he's so efficient & on the ball & funny. Both servers are knowledgeable about the food & treat you like friends rather than paying customers & although it's relatively a small menu in comparison to many Chinese restaurants this often works & it certainly does here. Pick a few dishes & cook them to perfection it's really that simple & I really can't recommend this place highly enough. It truly is a little gem but beware, as it's a small restaurant it does fill up quickly due to it's popularity & it also does a busy takeaway service but I would honestly wait as many do in the street for a table you won't be...
