Anca Joaquín — Restaurant in Torremolinos

Having eaten at Anca Joaquin a few weeks ago we decided to go for dinner again last night. It was very busy, but with just three waiting staff they clearly couldn’t cope. Our starters were lovely, but I waited more than fifteen minutes for my main course after my husband had been served. We had to ask several times where my food was. When my lamb finally arrived it was bland due to a lack of seasoning. Upon paying we made our dissatisfaction known and asked for a discount to reflect the poor service which was refused, saying I should have complained at the time of eating as I had eaten my meal. Absolutely no recognition of poor service whatsoever. All in all very disappointing. Being British, they probably thought we were tourists, so didn’t care. We live here and as there are hundreds of restaurants in Torremolinos, it pretty simple, we won’t go back. Very shortsighted and clearly need to understand...

We were a table of 7. The food and wine were lovely. My sucking pig confit was great.

They were let down by very slow service and the language barrier meaning we didn’t really know what we were ordering (even with the menus in English). The waiter was unable to explain the size of the dishes which meant some huge platefuls of food being ordered as starters while some of (what we thought were) mains were smaller.

But speed of service was the main problem: my starter came out a good 20-25 minutes before everyone else’s, and the rest of the food was similarly staggered with the last person’s main arriving about 30 minutes after...

By far the best food we ate on our 7 day visit to Torremolinos. Great staff, brilliant food, and wonderful cocktails. The 1st item on the menu, the artichoke and ham, is a must. Probably the best thing I have ever tasted. The portions are generous, and I had to request a box to take home some of the food which was no problem for the owner at all. Very friendly and welcoming staff who provided great recommendations and help with the menu, and was happy to provide a glass of crushed ice for our 2 year old daughter which kept her entertained while we enjoyed the food.
