Hello everyone, So I decided to go back to Barlovento, as it was one of the first restaurants that we went when we first bought our house in Torrevieja 13 years ago. Back then it was an expensive restaurant but the food was completely amazing. We decided to go back and the experience that we had wasn’t anywhere close to the ones we used too.
The whole menu is designed as a tourist trap. From the raciones (that now you have to choose if you want them for 2 or 4 people… when a ración is more or less same size everywhere in Spain), to the prices that are ridiculous.
Just the bread is 5 euros when in most of places they don’t even charge it and still bringing it with Ali-oli and tomato sauce).
We ordered 2 steaks, both over done, when we ordered medium rare.
Three people eat the salmon with almond cream sauce, and the three of us expended in the toilet last night and we had been all morning gagging and puking.
None of us enjoyed the meal or the service. They didn’t have a clue of wines, they didn’t know how to even put the cutlery, we were in a huge table that we couldn’t almost hear each other, the table cloth used on the table was short from one side of table and hanging all the way to the floor in the other side, my partner could barely put the legs to reach the table.
There are so many details that you assumed that they will be perfect for the money that they are charging. The prices are Mitchellin Star but the quality is not there.
There are so many restaurants better than this one, with much better food, much better stuff and knowledge of the products that their selling, and with reasonable prices.
Again, this is just a restaurant to make money from foreign people so be alert. I am Spanish and I just wanted to go to bring back some memories, I should just stay home and keep the amazing memories from then, instead I’m here in the toilet writing this.
Este restaurante es una vergüenza, no me he sentido más robado en mi vida. No tiene nada que ver con lo...
Read moreHello Barlovento, One of the things I most hate in my life - injustice and another one that I hate even more - to pay for it!!!
2 Stars- 1 for the interior and 1 for the choice of fish, meat and vine.
Service: When I booked a table for our wedding anniversary, I asked table near the window, when we came and it was proposed by the waiter to sit at the far corner of the restaurant, it was said that it is no tables for 2 near the window. Ok, I respect your rules, I'm kind and I didn't ask a third time. BUT when we were sitting in the restaurant which was busy at 30% and observing 2 people who were sitting at the table for 4 persons near the window during our visit, I was shocked and my evening was ruined. Table for 2 and 4 glasses? Ou, I know! 2 of them are for vine and 2 for water? If you do not serve water with a starter just remove them and bring when I asked water. Service was fast, plates changed in time - no problem with it. Dishes: I'm not a food expert but I'm 100% sure, dishes which costs 30EUR+ should contain less oil and I expected more intense and balanced taste. I don't like my turbot with tender garlic, apple cider vinegar and chanquetes Solea stuffed with Prawn with Armagnac was delicious. The Side dish was similar for both - vegetables prepared in oil.
Resuming this: I can recommend to visit this place once and not spend a lot money there! Then you can say that you visited "best" restaurant in Torrevieja. But I'll definitely not recommend it for my friends...
Read moreNot sure what I was expecting, but I have mixed feelings about Barlovento. The food was very good (we had Sirloin Steak with bacon and mushroom - chefs own recipe), the service... Not so much. The staff speaks some English but feels like they don't really want to. I asked which wine they would recommend with the meat, and if we could only get one glass for my mom, since I didn't want any. We were served some wine, with no information on what it was (not something I'd expect in a nice place like this, I hoped to see the bottle). We had to complain, since it wasn't very good and the waiter seemed irritated, then brought some wines for tasting and a dirty wine glass... Again not giving us much information on wines being tasted, or showing the bottle. The steaks weren't cooked to our wishes (I ordered medium rare and my mom well done - both were undercooked, but still tasty) and they mixed our plates while serving, so we had to swap plates... Other than that, we generally simply didn't feel welcome and that cast a huge shade over our experience with the restaurant. Can get pricey, but I'd say the decor and atmosphere of the outside part, combined with the quality of food is worth it. Definitely try the chefs own steak, the sauce was amazingly good. Deserts were amazing and nicely served. I also really liked how the waiter poured my gin and tonic at the table, very professional. Overall service can be...
