QuitaPenas Valldemossa — Restaurant in Valldemossa

After reading the reviews we decided to come in and be amazed with the tapas some people claim are the best in the Spain. The choice in the menu was very limited, honestly there was just one dish, which turned out to be grilled bread with olive oil, cheese and 3 different hams (4 "sandwitches" in total). We knew that beforehand, but because its their only dish served, we expected it to feel a variety of tastes, but honestly, it tasted literally like grilled bread with cheese, salami and 2 other hams. It also took them more than 30 minutes to prepare that dish, which for me is long considering the fact this is the only dish they make it (not counting in desserts) and that all there is to be done is to to grill the bread and put ham/chessse on it.

Every trip to Mallorca for us has included a stop at QuitaPenas. Recently, we experienced our third stop at this little gem. At this most recent visit, we started with the almonds, olives, and giardiniera - the latter being a nice mix of crisp and sweet veggies served with local crackers. The pa amb oli boards are legendary - tasty, seasonal, and artfully prepared. Our vegetarian tabla included zucchini with olive tapenade and lemon zest, artichokes with a red pepper and tomato spread, roasted eggplant, and a Balearic cheese. The service is always consistently excellent! The staff are kind and patient. Their courtyard is a lovely place to enjoy your meal. They also have a small selection of local olive oils and spreads...

If cute is your drug, this place will have you rushing to Emergency. Just lovely. Staff are helpful and kind as your granny. The concept is great, and the execution of the veggie platter is good. Personally, I'd like the white toast underneath to be something with more character, or at least thinner. And i loke toast as much as George Harrison. But the toppings are slurpy, good oily, flavourful, and hit the spot. The starter was another opportunity wasted. Bland tomatoes don't taste better sweetened. The drinks list is missing a quality option or 2. The rioja white is very confronting. Again, personally, I'd prefer a fee higher priced, quality options in all sections.
