El Golfo is a lovely little village with lots of restaurants to choose from. Unfortunately we chose here as the staff in another, near by were rude and unwelcoming.
Our main waiter was fine if a little odd. He was pleasant but wouldnât allow us to order certain foods and tried to push us to order things we didnât want. He also wouldnât take an extra order of drinks until we finished what we had.
The other staff who brought our food and drinks were abrupt and rude. We were assured that the fish was fresh, however the seabass didnât taste fresh and was over cooked and dry. We ordered two separate fish for different people yet they combined them on a platter and left off half of the red mullet - which was why I assume the waiter was pushing us to go for a platter (which he brought though we refused). When it was delivered he didnât even know which was which. There were also very little accompanying potatoes.
The calamari didnât taste fresh either. It was tough and rubbery. Not what anyone would expect from a restaurant claiming to serve fresh fish by the sea. The member of our party who had this dish subsequently was very ill later that day and was unwell all night (possibly food poisoning). We had deduced it was most likely to be caused by this, although not certain.
There was also a cat wondering around between tables hoping to be fed. Although cute to some, I always find animals around food unhygienic and it was bothersome at times.
As fresh fish/seafood restaurants go, we were not impressed by this one, nor the price. Still very doubtful of how fresh it was, or maybe it was ruined in the cooking. We did see some others with dishes the looked good, but as for what we had, it was very disappointing.
The positives were that we were sat sheltered by the sea, and the lovely company of the people in our group. There are many other restaurants along the sea front. Iâd avoid this one and...
Read moreI would say.... avoid like plague. What is seen in the menu pictures is just for display... you will not get it. We could not choose as there were so many restaurants around and we stopped at this one. We asked the waiter what they offer for 2 pax fish plateau and he said plenty to eat, various fish.
We waited a bit, that was acceptable. When food came, we noticed it was not grilled fish but fried fish. The plateau was the most horrible fish I have seen in my life( we are middle aged). 3-4 pieces of head, 3 small fish tails with no meat on. Some small portions of the fish body, no fillets. I told him â this is just heads... he said â this is a very expensive fishâ . I noticed it is redmullet, but is pointless if what I have in my plate is just tails and heads. Arrogant waiter, not polite, horrible. I have asked the waiter why the fried and not grilled fish, he answered on a very very aggressive tone, with hand pointing at me, that this is what I ordered and that everyone else is happy apart from us.
Another lady came, nicer I might add, when I showed her the platter , with heads and fish tails, she said that the fish has a head and a tail. I said, yes, one head, not 3-4 like a dragonđ . And it has fillets as well. She kindly offered to give us the grilled, I said yes although I just wanted to leave. Just the polite way, but the grilled was not better, no taste, no seasoning.Appreciate the effort though, but that 1 fish and a half is not worth 32 euros.
Angry waiter, horrible man. Avoid this restaurant, I regret my waisted money and my indigestion.
Remember: best restaurants are hotel restaurants.I would like to add pictures but the site...
Read moreI was looking for a café while visiting El Golfo. The owner was just crossing in front of me and asked if I wanted anything to drink. I liked his initiative.
They have covered seating beside the sea, and having orders coffee and apple tart while parking, it soon arrived. The tart was delicious, served with cream and ice cream. Good coffee too. Price was âŹ7.56, a bit more because it's a tourist spot.
Only thing wrong was the men's toilets had no light, otherwise a pleasant experience.
Went back in early 2018 for a late lunch. Unfortunately it was very busy. We were asked to wait over the road for a table to be free. After twenty minutes wait a table came free but the waiter gave it to a group of four who arrived after us.
Good for business, but it doesn't show them in a good light. We left and bought some food from a supermarket and had a picnic by the beach. We were happy; saved money and...
