There were 8 of us and we were clearly the only tourists at Casa Unai. The owner, Unai, tried his best to communicate with me as I spoke very little Spanish so he met me in the middle and spoke to me in half french and Spanish as I was more fluent in French! I was with my parents and 5 of their friends from Malaysia. One of my parent’s friends thought I already knew Unai just from how friendly he was! Unai was most accommodating and thoughtful when it came to helping us order. We got the deviled eggs with tuna which was delicious, the tuna tomato salad which was absolutely divine, the octopus + white asparagus combo which was so tender, the grilled monkfish + shrimps with aioli sauce (so good!) and lastly we ended with a portion of chuleton that he so thoughtfully divided into two plates without asking.
Unfortunately, one of my parent’s friends fainted from low tension and gastric pains towards the end of our dinner and I can’t even express how grateful we were that Unai and his staff went above and beyond to make sure that she would be okay. From lifting her legs up and icing her neck to carrying her into the cab. Given that the situation clearly put a halt to his service, we wanted to tip Unai for his wonderful hospitality but he simply refused saying that this is his responsibility as the owner of the restaurant to make sure his client’s wellbeing are taken care of.
All I can say is thank you to Unai and your staff for going above and beyond what needed to be done.
All this aside, Casa Unai is a very local and small tapas bar that is super welcoming and tucked away from the city center. Many people were turned away as they didn’t have any reservations so I recommend booking ahead! Amazing quality tapas for very reasonable prices.
Thank you for showing us how beautiful the people of Zaragoza are! Much love to you and your staff
Read moreExcellent service by all the staff. They are warm and welcoming. They will be happy to have a chat with you or let you to enjoy the conversation with your friends or next door table. The menu is basic and respect the excellent quality of the product so they have found a win-win formula. There is no a better or worse dish, they are all simply superb. Little choice for vegetarians. Drinks are a good reason to pop in as well, wine choice is good and it is served in big wine glasses, good selection of cold beers, Vermouth or the regular spirit menu. Their food quality could bring you to think that the bill will be an arm and a leg but this won't be the case. You will be greatly surprised. The local is small and their gastronomy is known by the locals so you will find it full at all times. To get a table you must ask at the bar so they can ensure that everyone follows the system. Although you will need a little bit of patience to find some room in it, it is a great place to bring someone new. Kids are welcome but remember that the space is limited. A...
