Restaurante Montal — Restaurant in Zaragoza

Classic and elegant delicatessen shop, bar, bistro, café and restaurant, founded in 1919 and situated in a charming small plaza in the center. We found the various tapas tasty, if not original. Seems that most locals go for the ibérico dish, accompanied with tomato bread. Russian salad was also excellent. I wish I could say the same for the service. It wasn't that the personnel didn't put effort or was discourteous. They simply lacked organisation. We were served by three different waiters, with the result that our food arrived in separate "shipments". We had to remind them about the bread and the drinks, which finally arrived after the food. We didn't minded so much about the over-the-average prices. In such places, you expect that to happen, as they are part of the city's history and they should be supported in order to survive. But also you feel yourself entitled to enjoy a fair ratio between price and service. I sincerely like the place and hope that there will be changes, as such issues...

Montal alimentación cuenta con una ubicación inmejorable en un palacio renacentista simplemente espectacular. El negocio tiene de todo: terraza en la misma plaza para tomar lo que quieras, es también tienda gourmet con un amplio y selecto catálogo, tienen además comida preparada para llevar y por si fuera poco también restaurante. Es éste último lo que voy a comentar en profundidad. COVID: Correcta atención a las medidas preventivas. Distancia entre mesas, personal con mascarilla y gel a la entrada. El restaurante se distribuye alrededor del claustro además de unos salones. Las mesas están generosamente separadas entre sí. El nivel de ruido es bajo (siempre y cuando no te entren unos borregos como fue en nuestro caso, obviamente la falta de educación de algunos no es culpa del negocio). Para el fin de semana disponen dos menús. Uno degustación y otro el menú Montal. Se puede consultar en su web, la cual está convenientemente actualizada. Nos decantamos por el menú degustación. El menú Montal tiene un precio más elevado y no sabes que van a poner. Seguramente estará muy bien, pero desconocer qué platos serán para nosotros fue inconveniente suficiente como para no elegirlo. El menú degustación consta de tres entrantes y un plato a elegir. Entra todo: vino, agua, postre, café... Son 42 € en un precio cerrado sin sorpresas. Nuestro menú constaba de: Empiezas con un aperitivo (una crema y un rollito con hummus). Muy bueno. Huevo a baja temperatura. Perfecto. Acelga, kokotxa y jamón. Para mi gusto le faltaba un punto de sabor. Ravioli de pollo de corral. Muy bueno. Entre los platos mi pareja optó por el magret. Sin duda totalmente recomendable. Yo por no repetir elegí carrillera. Muy buena, pero en opinión de ambos mejor el pato. En cuanto a los postres tenían tarta de queso y arroz con leche. Mi pareja eligió la tarta y yo por no repetir el arroz. Nuevamente volvió a acertar ella. La tarta espectacular, muy cremosa. El arroz estaba perfecto de textura pero por lo demás no era nada especial. La atención del camarero es perfecta. Trato profesional y cercano sin excesos. Muy atentos para que no falte vino. Un 10. Creo que es una muy buena opción para disfrutar de una buena comida en un enclave difícilmente superable en Zaragoza. Hay sitios más baratos, por supuesto, pero no tienen la misma calidad. Creo que es un precio totalmente correcto considerando todos los factores. En mi opinión 100%...

This restaurant is located in a lovely square. We were thrilled to find it, and looking around at the orders placed by others, we anticipated a wonderful meal. Unfortunately, our enthusiasm ended there due to a young waiter who seemed irritated by us when we asked for a little more time to order after receiving our wine. He seemed clearly irritated by us and never returned to our table. We sat for an additional 15 minutes after having finished our drinks. We made eye contact with him, but he still ignored us. We’ve travelled throughout Spain and loved everywhere we’ve been, but it was clear he had something against us for some strange reason. We walked inside, paid, and left without eating. So sad that a clearly wonderful establishment should be colored by one waiter...
